I don't bother bashing Halloween. My church goes one better by recruiting hundreds of volunteers to collect for the local food bank. We collect an average of 55,000 pounds of food each year, just on October 31. People are expecting visitors that evening anyway, and the response is usually positive. I'd like to see this idea exported... (hint!) :)
This is a very good idea. Only problem is next time to go to church is Sunday which is November 1st, so kinda too late to spread the idea. Does make me think of another opportunity with Thanksgiving Day coming up though.

Thanksgiving Day is a pretty good holiday. Even though somewhat nationalistic to USA it is also one of those rare holidays that is connected solidly to Christianity though. You never really see a BDF debate on Thanksgiving Day frankly because there is no real debate to be had. You just have to be thankful to God and feast on some turkey and cranberry sauce and enjoy what God has given you, your family and friends.

Aside from the theological reason of these holidays....

I don't like halloween, christmas and easter. Purely for selfish and akward reasons, it can get akward when strangers ask my kids, "What did you dress up for halloween?" or "What did you get for christmas?" And depending on whether people take a religious or secular view of easter, "Did you go to the sunrise service?" or "Did you find many easter eggs?"

I'm still disappointed in the lack of turnout for Thanksgiving bashing. Christmas and Halloween are easy targets. Come on, is nobody up for the challenge of bashing Thanksgiving? Surely somebody can find something pagan about it...

Here as to not disappoint let Blond assist......Thanksgiving is a gluttonous holiday so that must be pagan.....Slothful too as after the great feasting people laying around watching football on the Telly.....

...and you know which Holiday is next up on the chopping block... Halloween.... have at it....
Halloween = example of american cultural imperialism, plus it's pagan and really not suitable for kids.
But today (nov. 11th) we celebrate St. Martin's Day! (No, it's NOT a catholic holiday so shush!) :p

Pagan Christmas zombie thread, back from the graaaaaaaaave!

zombiesanta.jpg

We haven't had many "Christmas is pagan!" threads this year. In fact we haven't had ANY in some forums. So we must resort to the Halloween tradition of digging up zombie threads to fill the gap.

Why does it have to be either/or? Why is it when someone celebrates Christ-Mass they're good Christians with benevolent motives; but if someone is opposed to it they become the villians, Grinches, bashers? I think a lot of people have to demonize those who disagree with them so they can feel better and then won't have to examine themselves.

I love the holidays it is just in the past being on CC I have noticed many do bash or trash the holidays - so my intent was to let those do what they do. Not to make myself feel better or superior just to let anyone express themselves in the way they want to as I already know that I am happy and will enjoy the holidays with whoever wants to join me and my family. I'm one of the happy ones not a grinch type at all.

Interesting that this thread was brought to life again after being dead and gone for a few years.
