I've heard many versions of Puttin' on the Ritz, and I think Fred Astaire is the ONLY one who sang it correctly. As a matter of fact, Porter said he wanted Astaire to introduce all his songs. Every Cole Porter song Astaire sang became a hit.

I enjoy that music. Dining at a lazy restaurant listening to Glenn Miller, zipping some expensive wine and only tuxes and extremely elegant dresses around. LOL. Could even make me wear a dress.
Throw in Fred Astaire to dance, that would be divine! The 1930s had class. :)

I love Fitzgerald. I think she was the best female singer, ever. It's alright- we seemed to have meshed 30s and 40s together.

This song actually means a lot to me. My grandmother worked in a sewing factory, making pockets. She dropped out of school in the tenth grade, and worked in the factory. While the girls and women worked, the supervisors played music for the girls on the intercom. In 1952, at the ripe old age of 17, my grandmother put in her notice because she was going to marry a sailor. Her last day of work, they announced her upcoming wedding and dedicated "In the Mood" to her. Every time I hear the song, I imagine her in the factory and her friends being excited and happy for her.

We played that song in my high school's jazz band. I played drums. I like that song. :D
