If you like Mildred Walker, you would also like Dan Cushman. He lived a few houses from us in Great Falls, Mont. where Mildred also lived for awhile. Cushman’s Stay Away Joe explains how the Indians thought, at least the ones I knew in the 1960’s. Dan dared to name an Indian outlaw in that book who lived in Wolf Point, Mt., and mentioned the apartment he lived in even. Most of his characters are fictional, but that one certainly wasn’t.
