Maxed out at 425 in the squat today. That's 60lbs more than last year.

I'm very happy with that progress.

Testing bench is next. I'll do that on wednesday, hopefully.

I went swimming.

I observed an aquatic zumba class going on and it looked like SO MUCH FUN. Upbeat music?? Dancing??? In the water?!! Sign me up please. I'm going to attend the next one, I can't believe I didn't know about this.

I was supposed to take a rest day, but worked on legs.

3x12 400lbs single leg leg press
3x10 250lbs squats
3x12 calf raises

Then various extensions, etc that I forget the name of.

I had a gym membership to the ymca a few years ago and they had a pool.

I would do laps after my workout was over.

I kind of miss that.

Not enough to go to a gym without a squat rack or a place to deadlift... but still...

Tried for my max in bench today.

Failed at 285. Then failed 275. Got 265.

That's 10lbs less than this time last year.

But on the plus side, I rehabilitated from a shoulder injury that kept me from benching heavier weight for 6-8 months. So, actually, getting back to 275 isn't so bad.

I'm still a little disappointed that 285 didn't go. Can't lie...

I think with 6 weeks left till the meet I can probably get 285.... Always gotta be positive.

I love working out! I am a runner; I signed up for a half marathon this October, and my mom is going to fly up and do it with me! I got through all of P90X3, and I am an avid rock climber. Gotta' sweat out those toxins :)!

One thing that amazes me about working out (and one thing that is often misunderstood by many who don't workout) is how little time is actually required in a single workout, and how little of your time it takes to do multiple workouts in one week. My workouts have always been only 1 hour long (only recently have I stretched my workouts out to 1 hour 30 minutes), and I only workout on average 3 days a week. That is a total of 4 hours 30 minutes out of 168 hours in a week.

It takes very little time to maintain a healthy workout schedule that will give you many positive results. It is not time-consuming in any way!

I went for max deadlift today.

I got 475.

I tried for 5 plates, 495, but it didn't even budge off the floor. I was very disappointed by that.

So I put some straps on and ripped it off the floor up to my thighs, struggled with it a little at the top and then locked it out.

Can't use straps in a meet though, so my max is 475.

That makes my total for the 3 lifts 1165 which is exactly 100lbs more than last year. Hopefully I can keep improving by 100 lbs a year in all 3 lifts.

I deadlift sumo now. I used to do conventional but I hurt my back. Haven't done a single conventional deadlift since.

I just got home from my first ever spinning class today, and topped it off with zumba class right after.

I joined a new gym about a month or so ago mostly for the pool access, and decided to see what these group classes are like.

Excuse me while I hobble into the shower.

Squat day today, volume....

Did 355 (5)x5. The 4th and 5th rep of every set was very difficult. By the 5th set I could hardly breathe on the 4th rep. I couldn't get air on the 5th rep either.

The weight didn't seem super heavy. Just my lungs couldn't keep up.

I think next week I will do 365 (3) x5 so I don't have this problem.

Front squats was like resting after these rear squats (low bar). Did 135,185,225 (5)

Tomorrow will be flat bench and incline bench.

Had to separate bench from squat day because bench was suffering. Not supposed to according to the program, but that's the way my body is reacting to this training.

I modify everything to make it more the way I like/want/need it....

I just finished my workout. I've got one day left on my current program. I've gone up about five pounds. I will say that my back, arms, shoulders, and chest have been much improved during this 4 weeks. My own routine is much better for my lower body though. I don't think that I will do it again, but I will definitely incorporate some of what they've had me doing into workouts going forward.

Took a break today...hitting the pool after work tomorrow

I do have a question for you guys though, Grandpa and Bruce...forgive me if you already shared earlier, but what programs are you guys following?

I got some padded bike shorts in time for my next spinning class...those bike saddles are no joke. You know, I've been all over the place with nailing down a measurable routine or program, but I'm finding that I'm enjoying my workouts significantly more lately.

I do feel like I push myself more in a group class environment compared to when I workout alone....the power of peer pressure.

I really wanted to work out tonight. I worked out the other night and I didn't want to take off more than one day because I need to get out of this horrible shape I'm in. I feel like I barely have energy to go to the store and my lower back is always a little sore just from having weak abs I guess. :( I got sidetracked tonight by some stupid thing I was working on. Then tomorrow I have to get up early for something.. D:

I'm doing a modified Texas Method for powerlifting.

I started out doing exactly what the Texas Method called for. Which is basically squats, bench and deadlift 3x a week. I found that after squats my shoulders, arms and energy just couldn't keep up with what I needed to do on the bench.

So after a month of that I seperated bench day from squats and deads. Same basic workout but I eliminated "light" day and I do bench on tuesday and thursday.

I like this because I get 2 really good squat days in, 2 really good bench days and a good deadlift day.

Before it always seemed like I would have to neglect squats to do bench or I would have to neglect bench to do squats...
