Did everyone stop working out?

You better get back to it. We have a meet at the end of March. Have to break a 1300lb total including breaking 300 on the bench.

What are your fitness goals this year? Don't say none. That is un-acceptable. Go get some and then report back.

So... does getting off the couch count as a fitness goal...

I sure hope so.

(I'm currently at 60-90 min. on the treadmill, incline of 6, speed of 2.7 but that's because I read the whole time and have to keep a slower pace.)

Cardio is currently about 3 times a week... Hoping to work up to adding weights 3 times a week as well.

My main problem is I've always (and I mean always) been the one that finished last, was weakest, couldn't balance, couldn't score a goal etc etc ... and that makes it really frustrating to exercise anywhere where anyone can see it (which rules out gyms).

Maybe all I need is an equally unfit training partner :p

I have been exercising pretty consistently with strength training the last 6 week but wanted to kick things up. So, this new year I started Hasfit Motive; it is on Youtube and completely free. I really missed the HIIT exercises; I used to do them a lot. They get my blood pumping and I break a good sweat. I want to lose 30 pounds and this will do it for me. Just need to be discipline and keep it up.

That's the good thing about strength training.

Everybody starts off relatively weak. Some progress faster than others. But if you keep at it, like the tortoise and the hare, you can overtake people you never thought you could.

The hardest part is trying to keep ego out of it. If you try to progress faster than you are able then you can get injured. If you just keep track of it and progress at your own rate you will continue to make gains.

I built my own 'gym' and exercise in the basement. So I have no one to 'compete' against. Except everyone who lifts weights wants to know how much ya bench...

When I ask them how much they squat or deadlift I get stories about bad backs and bad knees. Hardly anyone does all 3 lifts.

Yea, I guess I have to wait until I get an apartment and can do things on my own.
I don't really have that many friends, and no-one in town that lifts weights, so I only have myself to compete with if I exercise at home :p

There are also lot's of good body weight exercises you can do safely and get a good workout. You just have to tweak them a bit as you get stronger.

Nutrition is 90% of any workout program.

The way I see it, if your serious about getting into any kind of decent shape that really means anything, if you can do medically and /or physically do squats and dead lifts but won't, why bother at all?

Did squats today. Just about reached my absolute max for (5) x5.

Then I did front squats to finish off anything that might have been left.

Then I realized I had to go upstairs to get out of the basement. I need an escalator or something on squat day...

Tomorrow is round 2 of bench. Going for a 5rep max. I do 5x5 on mondays and then go for a 5rep max on wed or thur. Same with squats, 5x5 on tues then 5rep max on thur or fri. Then deadlift on fri or sat.

I'll be switching to 3x3 with higher weight in feb. Then 1rep maxes in Mar.

You certainly can! They have a place too. I eat them every Friday. I call it "re-feed day". It's like winning a trip to Hawaii every week...lol

I've been doing more circuit training lately. The extra cardio and moderate weight lifting seems to agree with me, now that I'm over 50. :eek:

If I could dance everyday, I would totally use that as my workout! (and yes...it takes a lot of energy to dance some of those old squares and such).
