And of course, latte with bunny on it!

No idea why my pics are so BIG! Sorry!
For instance this very cute bunny latte is sized @ 1600 x 1600 pixels.

I will take it into pixlr and resize it to 540 pixels... I warmed it up a bit to make the whites a bit whiter also, then minimally adjusted the contrast, and then added an eight pixel border to it :D I hope you don't mind! :)

I thought you were going through an exorcism, and had your burger ready to eat after you were set free. :p ;)
Ummm... As people who PM with me know, I have a hard time understanding North American humour. I think we are very direct and literal at home. We also don't read into underlying meanings. Its just a very different culture.

Although I try, it never usually goes well for me when I am in North America.

Sorry you guys are on the recieving end of that.

I lived in Canada for a while and they had no problem with getting humor.

In the movie 'The Exorcist' the girl who had the demon was able to spin her head all the way around...so...anyhow...I tried to make a funny.

Looks like there could be quite a few spin offs.

Hi Lenardzw,

For health reasons I do the green smoothie every day. In one serving there's a small banana, about not even 1/4 cup of strawberries, blueberries and pomegranate arils. About 1/2-1 Tablespoon of flax or chia seeds. 1/3 cup soy milk and water and a little stevia powder. For the greens in it I usually add quite a bit of collards or kale. Sometimes spinach or romaine.

Culturally we eat mostly Mexican food. We love our cultural foods.......yummy! There's a question always asked as a kind of joke. Red or green?

Growing up we baked everything. My husbands culture growing up was to fry everything. I cook so I don't fry that much. If we want fried, we can go out to eat. I try not to for health reasons, because I love fried foods just as much as anyone else. Sometimes I have fried some things like egg rolls from scratch. Yummy!

According to your definition my husband is very healthy - I am not. :) And I'm not, that's why I do eat more healthfully.

Mealtimes are very important to us.......it's a matter of life or death! :)

You mix fruits and veggies in your smoothie? You don't feel bloated? I heard that fruits and vegetables have different type of enzymes that when mixed, can cause fermentation. It is more advisable to just make a fruit smoothie only or veggie smoothie only. But you can add nuts since nuts do not cause fermentation on your salad or smoothie. I was surprised that avocado is not a fruit but a nut. :)

To the OP:

We filipinos eat rice morning noon and night. Can't live without rice. Lol! To keep it healthy I eat a mix of brown, red and black rice. I'm contemplating on going vegan but I know it would be a struggle since I always eat outside and vegan food outside is expensive. I sometimes make carrot juice or banana strawberry smoothie and drink it before breakfast. I have eliminated pork on my diet and don't crave for it anymore and I seldom eat chicken or beef and just eat more seafood. I also love fruits and vegetables.

I can see how people can find it funny, and how everyone can get a good laugh.

But when its your picture being referred to as demonic and being exorcised, it doesn't seem that funny. Im sorry if that seems a bit emotional, or taking it personally.

Im sure you wouldn't enjoy a picture of you being called demonic by brothers and sisters, and have everyone else laugh along.

Wow. You can see how it could be funny, but then turn south about it instead? OK. For the record NO ONE is laughing at what you look like in your picture, they laughed at my allusion to a movie and joke. I'll tread lightly from here on knowing that you're easily offended and uptight. My apologies.

Hi Tinkerbell,

Yes I use both and no I don't feel bloated. Some find it causes bloating so I guess they should avoid it if that happens. I forgot that I add oatmeal to my smoothie too! :) I've read both sides
and here's what some say.

From livestrong.com
Food combiners say that you should not eat fruit with other foods because they digest quickly and ferment in the stomach if eaten with other foods. There is no evidence to support this food-combining rule, however. Digestion of fruits and vegetables begins in the mouth, where the enzymes in your saliva begin to break down the carbohydrates. The chewed food moves on to the stomach, where everything is mixed together and the acid and protein enzymes begin to break down the protein in the vegetables.

Once in the small intestines, other enzymes break down the carbohydrates from your fruits and vegetables into glucose and vegetable protein into peptides and amino acids. It is then absorbed, along with the vitamins and minerals, into the bloodstream.

Your body can handle the digestion of a variety of nutrients from all different types of foods at the same time. It does not digest the carbs from fruit any differently than the carbs from vegetables.

Thanks for your concern and desire to help me out! :) I've eaten this way since June 2006 and I do fine so far. I do however try to keep the greens and oatmeal as the higher volume amount.

I also try to eat more of a vegan type diet with little to no meat. Although I've messed up lately because of the holidays. But it's mostly greens, vegetables beans, mushrooms, nuts, seeds. Lots of salad and soups are on the menu. We don't have a vegan restaurant here, but hope someday we will.

My sincere apologies. I did not mean to imply that there was anything demonic about you, even knowing my comment might evoke those associations in other people's minds, due to our shared cultural heritage thanks to Hollywood via the Exorcist movie. I was joking about your hair looking like there is no opening part in it at all as if it were falling around your face, and so seems more like a shot of the back of your head. I am sorry for offending you in any way. Please accept my apology. You have been a really good sport and displayed an incredibly positive attitude since you joined this site, and I am sorry for offending you.

Thank you, Magenta. That was very thoughtful. I truly appreciate it!

I brought you a latte to share with me, from one of my favorite cafes. You can have the teddy bear!

PS. I didn't resize this one, because bigger lattes are always better in my opinion!

I have evidence why food combing is real. Not a myth like some misguided people state.
How about over 200 people I have had experience with that say they have more energy, feel less bloated, and sleep better when they began combining foods correctly.

It seems some people will find any excuse to look for the easy way out.

Below, by Dr. Mercola
Why Food Combining Matters

Wayne is probably best known for promoting the importance of food combining. If the food you eat is not digesting properly, not only can painful gas, heart burn, acid reflux and other stomach problems arise, but your body will also be deprived of critical nutrients.
The short definition of digestion is: you put food or liquid into your mouth, swallow it, and then your body breaks these molecules down into a size it can absorb. What your body doesn't use is excreted as waste. These are the four processes listed above—digestion, absorption, assimilation and elimination. But food is actually broken down in a number of different areas, including in your mouth, stomach, and the first and middle sections of your small intestine, called the duodenum and jejunum respectively. Furthermore, you have two kinds of digestion:

  1. Mechanical (chewing and churning) digestion
  2. Chemical digestion
Food combination takes into account the area and complexity of digestion of each food, to ensure it goes through your entire digestive system with ease. Dr. Pickering explains:
"There's only one food that chemically breaks down in the stomach and that's protein. Proteins require pepsin, a very highly acidic [enzyme] in conjunction with hydrochloric acid. But the hydrochloric acid doesn't have the ability to break the food down. It just sets the medium for the concentration of the amount of pepsin that's poured into the stomach to digest whatever food that's in there. The intelligence of this human body is phenomenal."
There are three primary categories of food: proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Proteins, again, begin their digestion chemically in your stomach. Carbohydrates are divided into two categories: fruits and starches. While fruits pass through your digestive system with relative ease, starches require three levels of breakdown; the very first stage is in your mouth. That's why it's crucial to carefully chew starchy foods.
According to the rules of food combination, you do not want to mix proteins and starches in the same meal. This means, no bun with your hamburger, no meatballs if you have pasta, no potatoes with your meat... Why is that? Dr. Pickering explains:
"Starches require an alkaline digestive medium to digest. If you put your fist in your stomach while it's digesting steaks and all that, chances are, you wouldn't have a hand anymore. The acid is intense... When you mix them both together – an acid-type of food and an alkaline – basic chemistry shows that they don't digest. They neutralize. Then what happens? If the food is not digesting... it's going through your body [undigested], throwing it into all kinds of turmoil."
The Three Commandments of Food Combination

Dr. Pickering lays out three basic commandments of eating that he recommends you not deviate from:

  1. No proteins and starches at the same meal, as they neutralize each other and prevent proper digestion of either food. To ensure proper digestion of each food, wait two hours after eating a starch before eating protein. And wait three hours after eating protein before eating a starch.
  2. No fruits and vegetables at the same meal. Fruits are either a single or double sugar, whereas the starches are a triple sugar. Fruits mechanically break down in your stomach, but chemically, they don't break down until they reach the third and fourth stage of your digestive system, which are in your small intestine. Starches, again, are broken down in three different stages, starting in your mouth.According to Dr. Pickering, this is also why it's crucial to not eat dessert after a meal. When you do, it gets trapped in your stomach with all that other food, where it starts to rot as it's not being chemically digested there. Therefore, eat fruit 30-60 minutes before dinner. The same applies if you want to eat another piece of fruit. Acidic fruits, such as lemons for example, also do not combine well with starches. Lemon and banana is but one example of a combination that is sure to lead to gastrointestinal upset...
Many people consider tomatoes a fruit, yet it's commonly added to salad. Dr. Pickering classifies tomatoes as a "fruit-vegetable," because even though they don't have the sugar like most fruits, they're still an acidic fruit-vegetable. As such they're okay to combine with other vegetables. He suggests the following recipe for an excellent salad:
"Any kind of vegetable that has seed in it; for example summer squash, zucchini, eggplant, cucumbers, bell peppers, and okra—those are all fruit-vegetables. Your tomatoes go well with those. And since lettuce and celery have a neutral effect, as far as the breakdown of food, the celery and the lettuce combine very well with all of that. You can also add avocados."
  3. "Eat melon alone, or leave it alone, or your stomach will moan." In short, melons do not digest well with other foods and will frequently cause problems unless consumed by itself.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I am trying a healthier approach to my food. To be honest I tend to do a lot of stir fried meals during the week after work because I want to eat without having to spend a long time cooking after a long day. Living alone does that. I love new tastes and so try different things from different places. we have a diverse population so I get to try foods from other parts of Africa - I love East African & North African cuisine. West African food is not something I'm keen on, for me its an acquired taste that is a big leap for me. Asian yes! In fact anything that is new I'll willing to try. My "least fussy" status is well known in my family and among friends - as long as its within reasonable boundaries, I'm usually prepared to try most new dishes.

Josephsdreams thanks for the info on food combinations. GodisLove7 thank you for your images. They are great. All of them. Desertrose I havent really had Mexican (okay tacos...). We don't have many Mexican people here that I know of and I can't think of a Mexican restaurant in my city. I do hear its really good though. Tinkerbell, more rice is being eaten here, almost as a new staple, but we certainly don't have a large variety of rices or rice dishes. Filipino seems yummy.

I didn't get it at first either, and when I did, I had to go back and look at the picture to see the reference. I have a bad back -- from neck to tail bone. All of it. Because of that, I forgot some people can turn their heads all the way to the side like that. (But I didn't get it, because, for me, it was all about that giant hamburger. I love food! lol) I would have gone more for your capabilities are owl like. And, they're really not. It's just many of us are older and can't turn our head like that anymore.

As for The Exorcist? Even watching the movie, I was fully aware it wasn't the child who was evil. Something got in her that was evil. And it was a movie with some cool special effects in it, (for the era.) No one was calling you evil. We're marveling at how well you can turn your neck.

BTW, I also marvel at the volleyball players in the Olympics. I also only vaguely remember when I could jump like that and arch my back like that. I'm getting to that age that I sometimes wonder if that's not special effects too. lol

It is American humor. Kind of like watching Monty Python. Either you like it or you don't. (I don't like Monty Python, but hubby thinks they're hilarious.) But please don't think we're putting you down. Your pictures (and since I have bad eyes, I liked their size as-is) made me hungry.

Here's another funny thing. That picture you had of dessert -- ice cream and probably bananas? At first I thought it was ice cream and squash. (Ack! I know squash isn't the word used in Europe, but I don't know what that word is. Another of our words is eggplant, but that doesn't help me know the European word any better. I'm just adding this in case anyone with BrE can translate AmE into BrE for me. Because, that's an entirely different taste in my mouth than bananas. lol)

Eggplant is aubergine. We use both words interchangeably in my part of the world.
