I promise I was a kid in the 80s and 90s, but my mom listened to a lot of oldies, so we grew up on them. Anyway, my grandmother nicknamed me "Kelly girl" so my mom would sing "Kelly girl" in place of "candy girl" so I felt like this was MY song.

I'll stop spamming after this one. When my sisters and I were kids, we'd sing this to each other. I was always Sonny. 
My sister and I were going somewhere together not too long ago, and it came on the radio and we sang it together. I was still Sonny.
