Aye, but the first NFL game I ever watched was the Raiders vs Browns in the 'Mistake by the Lake' game where the Browns were in FG range, but their PK had already missed two XP's, so Sam Rutigliano(I think that's how its spelled) went for the TD and Brian Sipe threw an INT in the endzone as Mike Davis(who couldn't catch a cold buck maked at the North Pole) intercepted it. I've been a Raiders fan ever since then. I was only 9(turned 10 that May) at the time. But I can remember that play like it was yesterday. It was 1-4-1981. The Raiders went on to beat the Eagles 27-10 in SB XV.

Apparently the Raiders were close to getting John Elway in a trade. It was to be a three team trade, and when Al Davis found out Howie Long had to be in the deal, he backed out. As much as I love Howie Long, who is a true Raider through-and-through, I can't help but wonder what could have been if they could have landed him. He was a thorn in the Raiders sides for years. Especially when we had the likes of Plunkett, Humm, Wilson(Marc and Wade), George, Beurlein, Peete, Hollas, just to name a few.
In a 1984 game at Chicago against the Bears, Jim Plunkett got hurt and had to leave the game. David Humm came in and got blown up and Plunkett had to come back into the game. The Raiders only lost that game 14-6, but you'd thought their QB's had been beaten with ball bats wrapped with barbwire.

Even the good old days were pretty frustrating. Have you ever watched Jim Plunkett play? They said that he had tunnel vision but some days I was sure he was totally blind.
But the good think about the good old days was how good the defense was. Didn't really matter if the offense couldn't score. The defense would hold up the whole team.

I played for my high school and it was fun slamming into opposing players with all my night and getting slammed hard by them too. What wasn't fun was being at the bottom of a tackle with a bunch of other guys on top of you. Sometimes you can't breathe with all that weight on top of you.... The difference between the NFL and roman gladiators is that gladiators did it to literally kill their opponent.
