I will not try to excuse Russia's invasion and destruction of Ukraine. However, I am also well aware that there is no such thing as coincidence. I believe that we are seeing God's righteous wrath being revealed. Ukraine is not the only nation suffering. Since same sex "marriage" was legalised in Australia, a number of catastrophes have occurred. Australia faces its greatest military threat since WW2. COVID has swept the world and is not going away. God is shouting. Who is listening?

Romans 1 traces the sorry history of mankind.

"18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them........."

In summary, God's judgement is to give people over to their base desires. God's protection lifts off and great affliction begins. If people repent, God's blessing is restored. Will we see repentance in Europe? There are reports of many turning to the Lord in this terrible time. Perhaps that's why, along with the prayers of the saints, that Ukraine is defending itself so effectively. We will see. One thing is for certain. We need to take God seriously.

"28Furthermore, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, He gave them up to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful. They invent new forms of evil; they disobey their parents. 31They are senseless, faithless, heartless, merciless."

By declaring this truth, we will win few friends and make a lot of enemies. People who delight in wickedness demand to be left alone to pursue their wicked ways. We also need to remember that we are forgiven sinners, no better than any other sinner. The world is going as far as to outlaw the truth, calling it "hate speech".

Yes, it is good to make the twofold acknowledgement. To acknowledge that the society's ways are all wrong. To acknowledge that God is judging them and his judgements though severe are very just, for he is a Living God and he has all the power.
