Paul suggests in his letter to the church in Rome, that every adult that is (mentally and physically) able in the church of God, has a job to do for the church.

I quote from his letter, in Classic Amplified Bible speak:
Romans 12: 6-8
”6 Having gifts (faculties, talents, qualities) that differ according to the grace given us, let us use them: [He whose gift is] prophecy, [let him prophesy] according to the proportion of his faith;
7 [He whose gift is] practical service, let him give himself to serving; he who teaches, to his teaching;
8 He who exhorts (encourages), to his exhortation; he who contributes, let him do it in simplicity and liberality; he who gives aid and superintends, with zeal and singleness of mind; he who does acts of mercy, with genuine cheerfulness and joyful eagerness.”

Have you found out what bent/gift you have for service to the church of God, and have you been given the opportunity, even encouraged to exercise your gift in service to your brothers and sisters in the Lord.

I‘ve attached a tool that has been used by people to ascertain what their gift is. If you decide to make use of this, it‘s obviously important to answer the questions from the perspective of who you really are, and not what you might rather be.

I‘d appreciate feedback including any anecdotal experiences you may have had regarding these gifts of service, which are sometimes called Motivational Gifts, and their application in the church of God.

Shalom, Tony.

Thank you for your response JJ.

Paul talks elsewhere of gifts of men to the church (set apart to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors/elders and teachers), but here he is talking about the rest of us, the vast majority of us, what do we do to help out in the church.

Could I put it this way if I may… if an overseer needed your assistance/help in a home fellowship group or the wider community, would they most likely seek your help for:
- Insights on what God’s will may be for an individual or the group; or
- Help repairing or constructing something; or
- The teaching of a lesson on a particular life skill; or
- To give a word of encouragement, boost spirits; or
- To delve out a financial gift or other resources to those in need; or
- To organise and run a project; or
- To have a chat, one on one, to someone that is emotionally hurt.

All of us can do any one of these things to varying degrees of course, but for all of us there will be one particular strength that was imbedded in us at birth, that stands out and needs to be utilised for our benefit, and for the benefit of those around us.

What do you think your standout talent would be? In respect of the dash points above, which one or two of those would you prefer to help out and serve your church in?

I'm a henchman. I never decide what we will do, but I almost always have a hand in doing it. I'll be somewhere in the background running cable to a speaker, putting food out on the bar, playing assistant for a teacher, whatever needs doing.

I took the liberty of numbering them to make it easier to answer. I'm probably going to be involved with 2, 3, 4 and 7. I'm too broke for 5, not smart enough for 1 and not socially adept enough for 7.

By the way, nice rephrase. This clears up your topic quite well. You should have led with that. :cool:

I found this talk encouraging. We need to stop thinking of it as Secular vs Sacred but instead blend and be evangelicals even among the secular world as we go about daily life. The Christian life shouldn’t hide once we leave the Church building. https://becomegoodsoil.com/podcast/103-work-repairing-the-sacred-secular-divide/
Thanks for sharing that.
Yes, Satan has sucked many of the church leadership in with a curve ball convincing them that being spiritual is mainly about doing something at a worship service, formal prayer meeting or Bible study, or participating in a church choir, or the like. Being spiritual is to do with our behaviour and speech being exemplary in whatever we are doing, whether that be in the workplace, in our recreation, dealings with neighbours, dealings with each other….indeed, in all our comings and goings. As the apostle says, let us “walk uprightly (imitating Christ), towards those on the outside” of the church.

Oh yeah... Tony can't see this.

Would some kind soul out there pass along this compliment to tony? You don't need to say I'm the one who said it - in fact you should probably avoid saying I said it - but I do want to make sure he hears it.
