Really? How many Christians do you know in real life? Two?
Tintin,

My intention is not to insult or upset you or anyone else; and I apologize to you if I come off that way.

As I have stated a number of times in other posts; I do believe in God, and I do believe that He sent His son so that we might all have an opportunity to be saved.

My father was a Baptist minister; so from the time I was born, up until I finally ran away from home...I was surrounded by "Christians", and have been so many years afterward. I have read the Bible, I know the stories and the lessons it teaches.

Most (not all) of the "Christians" I've met sicken me with their hypocrisy. I have been beaten to a pulp...twice over...by life, despite my most sincere efforts to follow the law as Christians say it should be.

Maybe I have become jaded over the years; but my life experiences have taught me as much of a lesson as the Bible has.

It is difficult to describe, but it seems that Christians have been conditioned to ignore things that logic should make obvious...but it is not their faults.

It is.

We will have to agree to disagree on this.

I have seen the various aspects of human nature; and it is difficult to deny that people act a particular way because they fear the consequence of what will happen to them if they don't.
I remember when I was quite young I was afraid of dying. I didn't want to die. I even had bad dreams about it. I was raised on a farm, very sensitive child, and a lot of pets and animals died around me, and I didn't want to die.
But When Jesus revealed Himself to me, and I searched Him out more and more, I was driven to know His Love, because I felt His Love and wanted more more MORE :) Desiring Him and living with Him forever has always been my motivation to desire Him more, asking Him to Come into as promised, more and more...
... but no, until now, I never heard of someone going to church for fear of eternal damnation. Did someone tell you that? Is that your personal testimony, that you fear some kind of eternal damnation, and that makes you go to church?

My heart is so with you. I was religiously punished as well, regularly. Then taken to ice cream afterwards. I was a mess. Needless to say I quit my parent's "religious" non-sense, it was just sickness. I haven't been in a church that doesn't remind me of that hell.
But that sure didn't affect Jesus' Love for me, or me loving Him back! As long as I could read His Word regularly and be given revelations out of it by His Holy Spirit, I didn't need any church group, and still don't. I am as strong as they come, and can now go into any church building of any kind and reach out to those poor souls who want to be fed manna. They sure don't get it from their 'pastors'. And I just love sharing the Word, so it is all good. Jesus will never leave nor forsake you my dear, and if you ask for knowledge wisdom and understanding of all things, He will give it all to you, heaping over, just like He promised.
It is all about believing Jesus, and not believing any man.
Peace :)

Ok I usually find it hard putting thoughts to words but here we go anyway...We are born again, made alive, renewed and pure of an incorruptable seed. When we walk in the spirit we are living to denounce sin and walk in righteousness through our love for God, with our sinful flesh and parts of our unrenewed mind we are at war between the two. When we die we will be raised up at the last day with a new sinless body.

Now I'm thinking...perhaps in the next age we will know the effects of sin, we have seen it now and will remember it...ahh I've lost my train of thought. Please feel free to correct anything I've said.

I have thought about the OPs question before too.

All of this is very good (except the religious crap and associated stuff) but it's still important to fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ. We weren't designed to live life on our own, we're designed for community. Don't go looking for a perfect church, you won't find it this side of eternity. Instead, look for a body of believers that have the heart of Christ. Look for a group who hold each other accountable and challenge each other, but also support and edify.

God will be all-in-all.
it would be awfully boring if there weren't individual personalities -
our experience with our Father is that He is FAR from boring -
in our personal lives, how much more exciting will it be
in the Spiritual World?

As God is an individual creative Being, so will we be!!

Fear and Respect was our first lesson in Christ,
and our second was His abounding Eternal Love.
