Man sues parents for not loving him enough - U.S. News

I wonder what is everyone's take on this. At first I thought it was just for money, but reading to the end he seems to just want a sit down with his family. Regardless.... its such a sad story.

NBC 4 New York
Bernard Bey, 32, of Brooklyn

By Checkey Beckford, NBCNewYork.com
A 32-year-old Brooklyn man is suing his parents, claiming he wasn't loved enough by them and that their neglect has caused him to be homeless and jobless.
Bernard Bey filed a self-written lawsuit in Brooklyn court earlier this month, accusing his parents of causing him mental anguish and for making him feel "unloved and beaten by the world."
"If you have kids, you're expected to love your children," Bey told NBC 4 New York. "You want the best for your children."
Bey claimed he was physically and emotionally abused and ran away from home when he was 12, and then was in and out of the shelter system after turning 16.
He's spent time in jail and is now homeless, and he believes his parents are at the root of his problems.
Bey is asking the court for more than $200,000 in damages. He wants his parents to mortgage their family home and purchase two franchises like Domino's Pizza.
"I feel like my parents should want the best for their children and grandchildren so we have something to pass down for generations so we don't have to live like this," he said.

Bey's parents, who live in public housing, said they're not in a position to give up any money. His stepfather named in the suit, Bernard Manley, had some choice unprintable words and maintained Bey is not his biological son.
Bey said he is willing to drop the lawsuit if his family will simply sit down at the dinner table with him.
"Let's work together, and definitely, I'll drop the suit," he said.

His experience parallels my family, who have circled their wagons around my worthless, abusive, unemployed brother who lives off them and told me (who shopped, cooked, cleaned, drove, and took care of them weekly) I can either get on my knees and serve the lord Matt like they do or I can stay the hell away.

My answer wasn't to sue, but to stay the hell away, and be absorbed into my wifes family who love me.

this is called blaming your current problems on your past problems and never really dealing with it.

He is dealing with it. He's desperately trying to get his parents to sit down with him and talk any way he can so he can confront his past. The media is just focusing on the lawsuit part.

Current problems are often the result of past problems not being rectified.

I feel for him, but this is not the right way. Honor your father and mother. That is a commandment. You don't have to like them. But at least have the dignity not to put your own parents; who gave him food and shelter enough. If for nothing ells honor them for giving birth to you and not dumping him in a trash can or having him terminated . So i would not ,think to put them through court...

But maybe some one ells has a different take

I wonder though if this is the last step this man is taking to get thru to his family. You would think it has to be. I mean if all he wants is to sit down and talk with them and they won't do it, that's crazy. And for that step-dad to dismiss him as well he isn't my biological son... that's horrible. He married someone with kids, therefore you take on the role of father. I wonder what is really going on that the media is not reporting.

Shouldn't be sueing his parents, or anyone for that matter.

I tried to to upload a video to share with people who whine about stuff like this but couldn't figure out how. It was the Geico commercial with the ex-marine who plays a shrink. sometimes people do not need to be coddled...maybe just a good slap...

I have compassion for anybody who feels unloved, but this is just ridiculous. A person can't get a mortgage on public housing, it is publicly funded and government owned. This whole news story is just absurd. Quite honestly, I only think the media reported on this because they see it as a joke.

The job of a parent is to give a child the tools to use to stand apart from them, make them strong. When a parent fails in this, it is up to the child to search for these tools for himself. God tells us that blaming and judging should have no part in it.

In Tajikistan, retired parents have the right to sue children for support.

TRUE REDTENT, A LOT OF PROBLEMS STEM FROM THE UMBILICAL CORD STILL ATTACHED, PARENTS HAVE SEPERATION ANXIETY, AND KEEP THE APRON STRINGS ATTACHED WAY TO LONG AFTER 5 YEARS OLD. LIKE THE EAGLE IT DROPS IT'S YOUNG FROM HER WINGS, AND IT'S HEY YOUR ON YOUR OWN, EITHER FLY OR DIE, I QUESS, THIS IS HOW IT LEARNS TO FLY. WE ALL NEED THE GUIDANCE OF OUR FATHER ABBA, THROUGH OUT LIFE FROM BIRTH TO HIM CALLING US HOME. LIFE IS A SCHOOL, A LESSON YET TO BE LEARNED. }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}:)

I'm not sure just how to upload a youtube video. any suggestions? I seem to be alright with pix but not videos.
There is a sticky thread at the top of the Christian Music Forum that explains how to embed Youtube videos, for some reason it won't work for myself, but I see others doing it with no problems.

I really don't think he's intersted in the money, as he's willing to drop it, he's just using this to try and get their attention
