I quite like the idea of this kind of keep fit!

Ashley Banjo and his street crew, ran a project a couple of years ago to get an
entire UK town coming together street dancing. The episodes leading up to the grand
finale showed him training with, medical staff, firemen, police, teachers, students,
unemployed, bankers, shop staff etc to show them all the moves.

Plus it followed all their stories, there was a mother and son estranged who came
together through it, a lady who had just over come cancer for the second time.
A man who was just about to retire who had swept the streets and emptied the town
bins and so many more. It was an amazing TV series.

I think my friend got the idea from some other mutual friends who are younger - the husband did
the London Marathon this year.

For me it would concern me a bit as other the last 5 years I have had a couple of issues with
Plantar Fasciitis. I had it in one foot for other a year a while back. Then last year it
started in my other foot - the trigger was all the walking miles around long hospital
corridors while visiting my aunt. Plus the number of times I ended up having to
walk home (2.5) miles due to bus problems from the hospital. It's just on its way out
now and almost cleared up entirely. I don't want that back its not pleasant. The pain
throws your whole walking gait out and posture which puts strain on other areas.

Have no idea what causes it, I've always worn good footwear and am use to walking
around a lot. Plus I have a niggly hip problem which seems to come and go from being
a teen. I've never got to the bottom of the cause but it can be months with no problem at all
then it will start to feel achy for a while, then just go away.

I would like to get fitter I'm just not certain I could physically cope with the high repetitive
impact of jogging, running etc.

I might suggest that that we see if we can join a gym if she wants to do something
together, but I think she is still very self conscious about her body. She has a lot
of loose skin and is waiting for surgery for that. That would also make swimming a
big no for her.
If you both can go swimming during the day time, your co-swimmers are usually plump middle-aged (and my end of "middle-aged," not real middle-aged) women. I was 50 pounds overweight when I joined a water-aerobics class and found myself the youngest and thinnest, including the instructor. Self-conscious left the building. And when I talked John into swimming laps with me a couple of years later, we discovered most of our fellow swimmer were pensioners. (Ha! I used a British word in proper context in a sentence. lol)

You can always visit a pool just to see, if it's the same.

Work day swimmers are the least intimidating swimmers around. I would think a gym would be more intimating.
