German is super difficult, I think I know about five words or so;)
That's interesting. I find it way easier than most other languages because it almost never deviates from its grammatical rules (unlike English for French) and its structure is also reminiscent of old English. That and there are so many cognates.

English is, at its root, a Germanic language with Latin and French trappings. In light of that, I found the transition easy.

It speaks to the logic of the German people in that they have kept their language so easy to understand. Almost to the point of being mathematical.

French, on the other hand, is extremely annoying.

Exactly. They have a different flow to them. More expressive, less methodical.

I'd like to try my hand at some other Germanic languages just to see if the special German-English relationship extends farther.

I hear the Danish numbering system is completely absurd.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread, Demi.

I empathize with your crazy school day. At the moment, my work's homebase is three hours away, but I only need to be there three or four days a week.

Not saying what days for all of my female stalkers between ages 18 and 40. I don't always have my cattle prod on me.

It is, Danish is pretty much like Norwegian, but orally it is not comprehensible. And the numbering system is very difficult, yeah:) Sounds like you do know some Scandinavian, don't you?

I have an extremely basic knowledge of linguistics/philology. Enough to sound educated while knowing very little of real value. :p

But yeah, I know some curse words in Danish and Scandinavian phrases as they relate to literature.

For future reference, I know enough Spanish and German to take care of the essentials if I'm ever lost in a country with either of those as an official language. Currently, I'm trying to gain a similar level of knowledge in French and having an extremely tough time doing it.

I think it depends on how your brain is shaped hahaha. My girlfriend is Bulgarian and I'm able to retain a surprising amount.

That or she is just trying to flatter me. Either way it works.

I think French is kinda comprenhensible whenever I'm reading a French text, but whenever they are speaking it, I dont get nothing lol. Same goes for Spanish, but I think Spanish is a bit easier to understand orally.I'm going to Spain next month so I should practise a little.
