(The Short Story) I am working in an environment that my boss talks about people (Everyone-including Clients) behind their backs. She creates a work environment that everyone falls into the same thing. I am trying so hard to stay "Christ-Like" and I find myself falling into it a lot. When you are around it so much its hard not to. She keeps the place feeling negative and it is a small office so we are all right on top of each other. I don't know what to do. I used to be a bartender and my Christian Conscience got to me and I left that all behind... at least I thought I did until I found myself in this situation. Any suggestions?

Every time your boss starts talking negatively about someone, politely stick up for them. Be their voice. Try to use humour if possible. If her attitude doesn't change at least she might not burden you with it.

It's a tough situation. Some might suggest you confront your boss about the matter. If you do, don't be surprised if you find yourself being pressured to leave. I would probably look for a job elsewhere. But that may not be a good option for you, especially if another job might be hard to find.

People will often tell you to just suck it up or ignore it. But if it's really weighing on your spirit, action should be taken. So pray about it and consider the consequences of your actions before doing anything.

I pray God guides you to a fruitful resolution. God Bless!

Just tell her it bothers you. Next time she does it say something like "You know what, I don't really like talking about people when they're not around." Just try to be tactful about it. Make it about you, not her, this is important because you don't want her to feel like you're pointing the finger at her. Good luck :)

Maybe my way of handling things like this can sort of be summed up by "rise above it". I use the scripture to put on the whole armor of God. I actually make a picture in my mind of God, and God ways being like a physical shield around me, so I live in a different world.

I live in an area that is being taken over by bad forces, so there is now break ins, police come, etc. I feel completely safe. These people are living here, I still live in a world surrounded by God. Sure, I lock my doors, I don't make friends with the people who seem a part of it, I take care. I would even move to a safer area if I could. But I do not live in fear or feel a part of this part of the world around me.

I absolutely love people watching. I love the stories created by the people around me. I have two friends I sometimes tell of my people watching. These two are absolutely absorbed in God in their life. If my people watching gets the least bit out of hand they simply don't share it with me, they are too focused on the good in life. If they see me reporting gossipy things, they never scold me but bring up something good, usually not about the people they feel I am gossiping about, but a nicer subject. They don't tell me that is what they are doing, but I know them well. They are an inspiration to me.

I work for some seriously tough bosses and I hold on to these things:

I am IN the world but not of it. I am salt and light and I am there to set the standard...Gods standard. So I set my eyes on things above, not this world.

Tough situations give me an opportunity to be refined, to walk the walk on a daily basis. To learn areas Im weak in and improve in them through prayer, surrender and the power of the Holy Spirit with me, guiding me and convicting me if I go to say the wrong thing.

I work as unto the Lord, so regardless of the job situation I ALWAYS do my best so my bosses cannot fault me. Daniel was in that situation where they tried to find fault with him but couldn't.

With this "mindset" you be amazed and what situations you can work in.Just by BEING the kingdom, BEING love, BEING grace you be amazed at what effect it has on others.....without having to correct them. They learn very quickly that you are not the person to gossip to about others about. Never talk about others to anyone and if someone talks to you about others dont give them much of response...just smile at them and say "ok"...."interesting"......they soon shut up :)
