I don't know if it will help with thickening hair shafts, but it might be worth a try.... I have used this type of medicated shampoo before to regrow hair where it is thinning (fewer hairs growing on top of head) and it worked!
Try it sparingly at first because it can feel overly stimulating to the scalp. You'll know what I mean if/when you try it. It sort of makes your scalp tingle a lot. The main ingredient believe it or not is coal tar extract and it was recommended to me by the lady who used to cut my hair.
