I would like some thoughts on a Prayer Cloth Ministry. I am considering organizing such a Ministry at my home church, and want to know if anyone has ever participated in such a Ministry.
This type of Ministry would probably be limited to families, friends, co-workers, and/or those within the community we could identify as being in need of prayer. It seems to me that we would need to know the name of the person, and their specific need for the Ministry to be a personal/spiritual plea for God to grant mercy and grace to the individual being prayed for.
I fully understand that the “cloth” has no special power, rather, it is the Holy Spirit that is the power of all Ministries, but I also believe that He can use such a Ministry for good, and as a witness to the Glory of God.

Acts 19: 11 .) And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12 .) So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

I am not sure what exactly you are talking about but I do know that at our church there is a lady that makes lap quilts for specific people and they will pray over the quilts for that person usually it is for healing and then give the quilts to that person. They put strings of yarn all over the quilts and as a person prays they will tie a knot in the yarn. They call them prayer quilts.

Thank you for your comment Sister. Yes, it would be similar to that, except I had in mind a simple handkerchief rather than a lap quilt. I know of a church in Texas where a lady also makes lap quilts for this purpose. I am not adept in that area, but would still like to consider this Ministry. It isn't about the item being a quilt or handkerchief, or whatever, it's about the sincerity of the petition of prayer for the person(s), but you already know that.

I believe such a Ministry must be heart-felt, (not saying the ladies in your church are not heart-felt and sincere) in that the Holy Spirit may place a burden on the heart of an individual to pray for a certain person(s), and the individual, in response to that burden, could stand before the Congregation and speak of this burden for prayer, and ask the Pastor and believers of the Congregation to join them in such a prayer, and ask that a "prayer cloth" be anointed and prayed over, and then have that "prayer cloth" delivered to the person they are praying for.

Hope that makes more sense.

It makes total sense to me - even objects were anointed with oil in the OT temple that were set apart for a holy purpose. In your type of prayer ministry, I would anoint a corner of the cloth to impart the Holy Spirit's presence just as handkerchiefs were used by Paul.

I worked for awhile in the Healing Rooms and they used prayer cloths for healing. People could take them home.

It is a point of contact for the person's faith to take hold of the receiving of the prayer and the anointing (hard to describe here). But it has worked many times.

When my granddaughter was a baby, I made and anointed a blanket for healing and comfort. She was only told that my prayers for her were a part of this blanket, and the Lord would remind her of His presence with her every time she used it. All through her life, when she was sick or hurting, she would wrap herself in this blanket. Never had more than a few days of being sick, and always felt comforted. It became a special "means of receiving His grace".

if I could put you into a box and wrap it with the most beautiful piece of cloth
that was ever made, dear Lord, I would do it.

what makes some things so beautiful is what lays in the heart of man -
if our thoughts and intents are of God's Love and Righteousness,
then a simple, lovely tear can heal whatever the evil one tries to destroy us with.

If you really want to help, just gather the church together, get on your knees, and present your need to God.
Forget the gimmicks and show.
