I have a hard time understanding and agreeing with some of the harsh punishments of the Old Testament. One in particular is in Leviticus, you were to stone your child to death for rebellion...Have you ever witness someone being stone to death? They still do it in the Middle East. It's horrifying. It amazes me how Christians complain about what goin on in the Middle East but a lot of what is happening over there happened in the Old Testament. Stoning,be-heading...the only difference is they glorify in doing these things.

The Bible makes it clear about the Old Testement laws:

"Before the coming of this faith,[a] we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian." - Galatians 3:23-25

The key to understanding this issue is knowing that the Old Testament law (such as stoning) was given to the nation of Israel, not to Christians. Some of the laws were to reveal to the Israelites how to obey and please God (the Ten Commandments, for example). Some of the laws were to show the Israelites how to worship God and atone for sin (the sacrificial system). Some of the laws were intended to make the Israelites distinct from other nations (the food and clothing rules). None of the Old Testament law is binding on Christians today. When Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23–25; Ephesians 2:15). Read more: Do Christians have to obey the Old Testament law?

I'm so confused. So God never told the Israelites to stone their child? Those were the laws of the land?

As you have made your mind up to have disputations with God concerning His Judgments of the Nation of Israel and others as evidenced by the Scriptures in the First Testament, there is no need for me to reason with you.

After all, you have predetermined that you will not accept any other reasoning than your own.

On the barest of possibilities........you might consider these two things (concerning you original comment It amazes me how Christians complain about what goin on in the Middle East but a lot of what is happening over there happened in the Old Testament. Stoning,be-heading...the only difference is they glorify in doing these things. ) GUILT .... INNOCENCE...........

Yes, we are under a new covenant because of the Cross and the Father has given His Son Jesus Christ power to now control the earth & heaven.

"All power is given to me in heaven and in earth" (Matthew 28:18)

"And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel" (Hebrew 12:24)

I never said we "we're under a new covenant". The Bible told me. When Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23–25; Ephesians 2:15). Read more:
