Hi Heather, while I do not encourage others to smoke, many of us do.Rom 14:13-14!!! This is not just talking about food! Is wine bad? or even a stronger drink?? Lets see what the Word says about this!!( 1 tim 5:23!!!) Now!! Keep this in mind as well!

If a brother or sister comes to your house and you know they hate someone smoking or drinking then for there sake i would not do, or serve drinks either! I am 61 and have smoked for 40 years, I have allowed my self this because i enjoy this! If I believed it would hurt my relationship with Jesus then I would quit! Because others say it does, sure does not make this so!!

They use both smoking and drinking as a stumbling block to condemn others! Not me sis!! ( 2 cor 12:9-10!!!) Many would call this a weakness, and perhaps sister it is one! But I am content with it myself! Even as Paul was with his! The only person to guide your life is Jesus!

Keep it that way sis,and you, like I, will always be able to keep your hope( rom 15:13)in HIS peace!! For who among any of us does not have some lack in there life?? I sure know I do! This is why I depend upon Jesus!!( proverbs 3:5-6!!)He knows me!! That is all I care about! Others look to judge you?? Give them this sis!!( rom 2:1-5!!) you will see there back in a hurry!!Even as Jesus did in John 8:7-10!!!) LOL Blessing sis!

I smoked over 25 years and I only quit one day when God whispered to my heart "that has become your god of comfort". Somehow those words went deep. Quit that day.

If you want to quit smoking try switching to vaping. There is no smell the taste is far better(right now I'm vaping mango/strawberry/pomegrante) and you can adjust the amount of nicotine you vape so you can slowly lower it to zero if you would like. But it consists of nothing but propolyne glycol, vegetable glycol, nicotine, water, and flavorings. And it's cheaper.

Lost my brother to alcoholism in 2004 at the young age of 43. I miss him sooooo much. I grew up with my father always drinking. My husband is also an alcoholic .. and although he is much better than he used to be and cut wayyyyyy down on the drinking, the times that he does drink consists of mentally abusing me. Not cool.
So sad to hear this Roxxy. I know how it feel losing a brother. I still miss my brother a lot too sometimes.
I pray that God will show u the way. God bless u and ur husband.

And unlike other sins that only affect your own body, smoking affects the people surrounding you too.
All sin effects the people around you.................

I don't smoke and never will. However, it is not a sin, but I believe it becomes an idol when having a smoke comes before God and then it becomes a sin. I will pray that you find an answer and able to kick this habit out the door and down the road.
Anything that comes before God is a sin.................

I've been a smoker pretty much since I was 16. I hate this dirty, filthy habit, but I am hooked really bad. Hubby also smokes, and it's a force of habit to light up in the morning with coffee, after you eat, when you are nervous, etc. I hate the smell, and even worse? The price. We could be saving the money that we spend on cigarettes to buy our new kitchen floor that I so badly want! I looked up "What does the Bible say about smoking cigarettes?" and got mostly the same answer. They say while it does not say in the Bible "Thou Shall not Smoke" ... it does say the following:

"
What does the Bible say about smoking? You will find no text that says, "Thou shalt not smoke." Tobacco is not mentioned in the Bible for a very good reason; its use is of comparatively recent origin and was not known in Bible times. In fact, Western Europe was introduced to it from the Americas in the sixteen century. In 1613 John Rolfe sent the first shipment of Virginia tobacco from Jamestown to England. Sir Walter Raleigh also imported it from the island of Tobago (West Indies) during the later half of the sixteenth century. The practice of smoking tobacco came from the native American Indians and the Carib Indians of Tobago. These practices were done as part of their religious rites. It is interesting to find that the root of smoking tobacco came from heathen religions. Columbus was amazed when he saw the Indians of the Caribbean drawing smoke through their nostrils with a Y-shaped pipe called a "tabaca", hence the name tobacco.Satan is always trying to destroy God's crowning creation "man", anyway that he can, and addicting people to tobacco is one of those ways. If Satan cannot destroy us other ways he uses this "little nasty habit" to slowly kill us over the years. Young people are the most vulnerable as many movie and television productions glamorize drinking and smoking. They never show the long term effects this habit has on people.Coming from a background as a medical technologist I saw so many people in the hospital, suffering needlessly, as the result of their smoking. Most people are aware of the major list of diseases caused by the longterm use of tobacco which are lung, throat and mouth cancer, heart disease and emphezema. However, Satan deceives them into thinking it won't happen to them. Young people just don't think about their latter years, and this "little habit" finally becomes so enslaving it becomes a"big monster" and is very difficult to get free from without Christ.I have known of a lot of Christians who smoked and really just did not want to give this pleasure up. The Bible does say there is pleasure in sin for a season but in the end we shall reap the result of that sin. The Bible says Moses chose to turn against the pleasures he could have enjoyed to follow God. (Hebrews 11:24-25 says "By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.")Galatians 6:7-8 tells us that in time we shall reap corruption from our sinful habits.Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.Tobacco is considered physically harmful because it contains nicotine, a drug which in its pure state is highly poisonous. It definitely is not only habit forming but addictive as well. It is ludicrous to hear the tobacco company executives state otherwise. We all know that their statements were made only because it would produce huge monetary losses for them to state otherwise. They need only ask someone who has tried to get free of this evil if they think it is addicting or just merely a bad habit. The Bible teaches us as Christians that we are to be clean and holy -- spirit, soul and body. Our bodies are called the "temple of the Holy Spirit". Every Christian is accountable to God for the condition of his body.1 Cor 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?1 Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.Someone might ask, "Why did God make tobacco since it is responsible for so many deaths?" Not onlydoes it destroy the lives of those that smoke but we know also from research that "second hand smoke" is also a leading cause of sickness that leads to deaths, especially in small children. Pregnant mothers also endanger the lives of their unborn with this evil habit. We should also mention the many lives and property that are lost to fires caused by a careless smoker. It is never God who is to blame for evil, as the tobacco plant has its virtues. There are useful chemical products made from tobacco which include those which kill insects and fungi. If man would spend the time and research for the good use of tobacco, I believe he would discover some healing properties in this plant, outside of smoking it. Satan always perverts the things in this world for evil use, while God has plans for them to bless mankind. As Christians there should be no place in our lives for this evil habit. This "little fox" is a killer and we should pray for those to be free whom we know have this problem. If you are in this trap, there is a way out. If you sincerely want to be free, tell God about your desire and your resolve. Ask others to pray for you too. Open the door of your heart heavenward and the Holy Spirit, will bring you both strength and victory. "

Please remember, I am brand new to living a life solely with God, so I am just learning about everything in the Bible that I possibly could.
I am actually a certified tobacco interventionist. Whenever working with someone wanting to quit smoking, I usually try to help them address 3 different aspects of smoking or using chewing tobacco; the habit, the physical addiction, and the emotional component. One of the reasons people seems to slip or go back to smoking after a quit attempt is because they have only addressed one of the three aspects. Like using the patch will address the physical addiction, but it won't address the habit or the emotional component. For people wanting to quit long term, all three generally have to be dealt with.

Hello Roxy, all I can say is yes the bible doesn't say anything about smoking or not, BUT, it does say about our bodies are temples of the God 1 Corinthians 6:19, if our body is a temple we have to keep it clean for our saviour, you know cigarettes are bad for our bodies affects the laungs the give oxigen to the brain, throat, kidneys, stomach, so now I ask you?? Do you want to quit?? I will give an answer if YES! Go and talk to our saviour Jesus and ask for forgiveness for destroying his temple because he give it to you new, and tell him how much you want to quit, tell him you give him your will, and your rights but do it with all your heart, and trust me you will feel different because he is faithful to those who seek for him, and pray everyday, read his word the bible, and every time you have the cravings to smoke listen worship music, and sing out loud for him, until that craving stops ...trust him all the way He will give you victory at the end. I will have you in my prayers! God bless.

Do any of you smoke cigarettes
I will be absolutely honest here, yes i smoke tobacco, i roll my own, very hard habit to break, it is an addiction, it is highly addictive, if i don't quit then i'm afraid my lot is with the wicked, no paradise for me. I'm having huge problems with prayer, it's not working, i have to find a way to quit, tried many times, quit for a while then back on the weed. I got to find the true God for help but most of it is down to the end user, very problematic for me, what makes it worse is that i enjoy a smoke, not good really. Probably not what you wanted to hear but i have to be honest. My own fault in many ways but its something i have to do and i can only do this alone, my faith is not as strong as many here, i have asked for God's spirit to help me but something isn't working or satan is more powerful than i realise, either way it is down to me. Struggling to break the cycle.

When we were crucified with Christ, our carnality was nailed to the cross. Jesus did all it took to gain the victory over our sins and said "It is finished." Smoking is not a sin. Smoking no doubt isn't good for anyone, but it doesn't separate you from God nor does it make Him disappointed in you. Nobody can judge a smoker because there is now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus who walk in the spirit and not the flesh.

Walking in the flesh means you don't have Jesus in your life. If you are a Christian, you are walking in the spirit of Jesus Christ. Nobody can accuse you because your sins were paid for. All of them.

Smoking is an unhealthy (and expensive) habit, but not a sin. Everyone has unhealthy habits. Guilt and shame are not good tools to use to overcome any habit. Guilt is not from God. Satan is the accuser, not the LORD.

I agree with Paul that we shouldn't let anything rule or control us. Because it's just not healthy or edifying. Overeating, cussing, not getting enough exercise, gossiping, procrastinating, watching too much television, whatever. You can overdo just about anything. And the more we walk and talk with the LORD, the more we see the truth of His Word and the more we become like Him. And the more our bad habits drop to the wayside. Jesus completes the work He starts in us.

Beating yourself up over something does not help. Other people beating you up over it is even worse. Rest in the Lord and let Him renew your mind more and more, from glory to glory. Commit your ways to Him every day and He will establish your thoughts and you will be amazed to find one day that your bad habit is no more. You just won't have the desire, thanks be to Him.

How can anyone be so sure about that?. Surely it is an unclean habit?, there is no way i believe for one second that the unclean will inherit God's clean kingdom. The Bible clearly states that human beings are born in sin and sin is inherited, it's a brave person to claim smoking is not a sin, at least i could never make any judgement like that. Common sense tells one that smoking is unclean, i mean, sex outside of marriage is unclean in God's eyes and yet sex is not unhealthy. Just some observations. What do i know?. Smoking is bad for the body, quiting is difficult and everyone is different so the task at hand to quit is not easy but i like to think it is not impossible. Looks like i have to keep trying to please the creator in all that i do, wow, steps to christianity is not easy at all.

[h=1]1 Corinthians 6:19–20[/h] Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Eating Mayonnaise then is unclean. Eating red meat then is unclean. Consuming any artificial sweetener then is unclean. Eating bacon then is unclean. Eating candy then is unclean. Drinking anything with caffeine then is unclean. Eating all fried foods then is unclean. Drinking whole milk then is unclean. And on, and on, and on.............just saying.

If you ever want to start smoking do the following, take 1 cigarette without a filter. Put it in your mouth and chew. Swallow... The urge will disappear within seconds.

Yes... that's the only problem, that it's very addictive for most people so it becomes a bondage and it controls us. Otherwise smoking at times without being driven with its lust, would not be sin I believe. Kinda like native Americans used to smoke, they had their pipe of tobacco on certain occasions (ceremonies). I'm pretty positive they werent consumed with this passion like most smokers nowadays. As Jesus said sin comes from the heart and in this case it's the lust for smoke...

Within reason surely, most of those things you mentioned are not highly addictive nor toxic, it's maily food stuffs you mention, tobacco is not natural food stuffs, tobacco is a weed the chemicals that burn off of it is highly addictive, also most smokers are a slave to the product, i'm sure the scriptures encourage the reader to be master over such things?.

every one of the examples I mentioned have been linked to cancer........is caffeine highly addictive? Does it make one a slave to it? The more they learn of artificial sweeteners, the more dangerous they are finding them to be.

Now, as for Scripture.......and this relates to all things.......Jesus said it's not what goes in a man's mouth that defiles the man, but what comes out............it is the HEART that defiles the man.......Salvation is a "heart" thingy, not a "big toe" thingy. God wants our "hearts" to be pure........for this is where the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit resides, not in the big toe. Now, that being said. Smoking isn't the best thing one can do, nor is consuming great amounts of caffeine, or sugary substances, or red meats or such............A person won't go to hell for smoking, but they will smell like they have visited.
