Miri,
Thank you for those pictures. They are great. Oh, that narrow walk between the shops, and those dandy signs. Love it. Leaves little excuse for failing to greet with a friendly smile those who go by.

You are fortunate to live with such beauty before you. I have many blessings, but you know, I live in the city. It's all concrete and pavement. Not exaggerating. Want a change of scenery? Go to the beach. Okay. About an hour. Then it will be crowded, dirty, and parking $10! Not complaining. Our sky is smog. Our sounds are traffic. Our sights are restaurants, restaurants, fast food, malls, gas stations. But it could be worse.

Thank you so much for sharing. Will google that house.

Hi the narrow street you mentioned, it's called the shambles. It's so narrow in places that if you are upstairs you can lean out of the window and shake hands with the person in the building across the road. York is a fantastic place to explore full of narrow little alleys (called snickets), which lead to quant coffee houses and medieval courtyards. There are also lots of
interesting street names such as whip-ma-whop-me-gate! The street names all would have had significance hundreds of years ago.

There is a Viking museum there after a viking area was excavated along with a yard and Viking homes a few years ago. Said to be at least a 1000 years old. See the following link

About Jorvik | Jorvik

I have been to see it and part of it entails travelling around a Viking village and seeing how the Vikings would have lived.

A funny incident, in York is a very large cathedral called York minister.

We took a group of children from the church to see it. One of them was a young cheeky chappie full of energy and a bit of a handful but really loveable. In the Sunday school the week before they were told about the Pharisees how Jesus compared them to white washed tombs full of dead men's bones. Anyway in the cathedral we went and he was wearing a cap. One of the priests in the cathedral walked over to him and knocked it off his head (which was bang out or order). This little lad started shouting at him saying he was like a Pharisee full of dead men bones!

we had to apologise and straighten it all out but honestly we were all laughing. Out of the mouth of babes!

hi lady blue thanks by the way for setting up this thread. Does anyone else want to give us all a virtual tour of the county they live in. I'm sure it would be interesting.
