What's your stand on drinking and smoking?

Drinking in moderation is fine, provided it's not a stumbling block for others and provided you don't come from a family history of alcoholism. I hate smoking. I'm so sensitive to it. I understand it's an addiction but it doesn't mean I like people doing it.

There are children that are born alcoholics the same way some are born crack-heads. I know a woman who has a deformed child & the doctor said it was because the daddy was drunk at the time of conception. Doesn't sound Christ-like to me.

In moderation and in control of situation and self and doing so consciously.
Like one cigar once a year on new years eve with a champagne or whiskey.
Or half a glass of wine with dinner and no more.

Problem is many are sensitive to alcohol and smokes.
Those with abuse, trauma and isolation and no social network are more suseptable to become addictive or to missuse it.
It may be someone does not drink daily but wheeeen they drink alcohol they have difficulty stopping at one or two drinks but instead binge drink and become drunk which makes bad behaviours they know nothing of.

Many people want to become binge drunk to go to sleep, escape pain or drown sorrows which is sad when one should turn to God and find support in church but as someone wrote in a post often church might be judgmental if someone has trauma might blame them instead of listen and support them not to drink alcohol.

I must stay away from both these things.
Although i tried hubbly bubbly, flavoured tobbaco smoked in water pipe was very nice.
Pure grown tobacco and fruit like apple or cherries inside.

Why not come up with a healthy ciggarette instead?
No tobacco instead smoke healthy goodness that taste sweet.

It is sad it is destructive often and expensive.
That said some people can handle it in moderation for others it may be to trying for them depending on the individual and the history etc.

Hope we find a delicious drinks for the soberholics and a smoke with out tobacco and delicious healthy things.

I don't like either. Drinking speeds up your heart rate, messes with your body systems, and loosens inhibitions, and as far as me doing it ever goes, I'd rather not take that chance. But as long as you control yourself and don't drink too much (moderation) it's not that bad. Smoking I do not like, as it can increase the risk of mutations that lead to cancer, and honestly is just nasty (all those chemicals, and what it does to your lungs and teeth!). There are also two reasons I will never smoke: I cannot stand it at all, and I would break if it messed with my lungs enough where i could not sing out or hit the high notes while singing.

Jess, honey - you just keep standing where you are - and do not ever let yourself be moved. You are fully justified and doing the right thing.

Now - if you are able to add 'tattoos' and 'piercings' to that "I would never do it." list -- then, you will have done really well --- stay strong!

Don't start either.
"Wine is a mocker and strong drink a rager and those that are fooled by them(alcohol) are not wise." (Will cause your liver to stop working)
Smoking decreases the life span by twenty years on average.(Will cause your lungs to stop working)
Both are stupid choices.
Stay away from both!
Avoid them like the plague!

Didn't tell Paul Timothy to drink a little bit of wine for the stomach?

I am against smoking!
But not against drnking wine of beer, but the Bible is very clear about drinking too much!!!
On the other hand : a christian who doesn't drink, but eats a lot of sugar or fat is on drugs too.
Sugar is very addictive and so is fat! Both are evil for your body.

1 Corinthians 10:29-33 (KJV)
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? [SUP]30 [/SUP]For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? [SUP]31 [/SUP]Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. [SUP]32[/SUP]Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: [SUP]33 [/SUP]Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

If I don't care about others, I don't care about God.

Matthew 22:37-40 (KJV)
[SUP]37 [/SUP]Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. [SUP]38 [/SUP]This is the first and great commandment. [SUP]39 [/SUP]And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [SUP]40 [/SUP]On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

I have never been much of a drinker. Don't like the stuff. My first year in high school there was terrible car accident near the school. Turned out to be a very popular elementary school teacher (my 4th grade teacher) had been hit by a drunk driver, who then drove off. She died after 3 weeks in a coma.

Both parents were heavy smokers, but mom cut down when she took a job as a secretary and couldn't smoke in the building (and this was 1970!) Dad died of cancer in 1989. In 1992 mom was going to spend a few weeks with my sister, in another state, during the last few weeks of her 2nd pregnancy. My sister never allows smoking in her house or car. So, mom bought a kit of filters, use 1 per cigarette pack, then go to the next one for the next pack; she quit before finishing the kit and never went back. We didn't tell my sister. When I called her to give her mom's flight information I said mom had a surprise for her. She thought either mom had won the lottery or I was coming too. When she and mom got to her car she insisted on knowing the surprise, mom didn't know what she meant. Mom finally said, "Nancy's pulling your let, honey, unless she meant that I quit smoking last month." My sister cried all the way home from the airport, a 2 hour drive. It's the most proud we have ever been of mom.
