Okay. Imagine we are having a relaxed open and honest discussion with eachother. We have a huge stack of index cards. On each card is one of 1000 different religions, gods or belief systems from the present and past. But none of the cards have your religion on it. I read the belief and all the arguments for it off of each card. Supposed holy books, witnesses, prophets, testimonies, eye-witness accounts, archeological evidence, ect. You tell me all the reasons you dismiss each argument. After we are a quarter of the way through something interesting happens. We no longer have to come up with new reasons to dismiss the ideas we can just refer back to previous cards. We get to the end of the stack, and surprise! Your belief is written on the last card. We could easily refute your belief by reffering back to previous cards.

Maybe I'm neither intelligent or well educated, but I can't stop believing in Jesus because I love Him so much. He gives me peace, joy and hope. He has enpowered me to escape from doing things that I don't want to do.

What do you hope to achieve here godless? Christians share their beliefs because they believe that what they have found is good. I don't understand why athiests share their beliefs. Why do you even care what christians believe?

I care because religion is fascinating to me. People who believe are interesting. I also go on atheist forums. We could use some people to debate with if you are ever interested.

What do you want prayer for, then? Do you want us to pray that you will want to find God? You seem attracted to and repelled by us simultaneously.

GodlessGirl,

I happen to agree with the scenario that you explained above. It is so easy to refute any religion. I can say that since I don't see, feel, or hear, God, that God doesn't exist. However, refuting a religion is different than saying that it is not true. (I understand that "to be proven false" is part of the definition of refute, but here me out.) Though I can refute my own faith using simple logic, I cannot claim it as false, per se. Also, atheism is a type of faith in itself, I believe. Do you think that you can be refuted, as well?

To explain this out of the realm of religion, I can give this example. My name is Revalon. I KNOW my name is Revalon. That is a truth about me. Some people call me River. My family calls me Sweetie. I could tell every person I meet from now on that my name is Sara, and they would believe me. The evidence would be stacked up against me that my name is not Revalon simply because nobody call me by that name. Does it make it false that my name is Revalon? I don't think so. My actual name was thought to be erroneous (refuted), but not proven false. It's true. (Not sure if this example helped, but I gave it a shot.) =)

Back to religion--God is still God no matter what evidence people have, either for or against.

As a Christian, I can tell you that Christianity still doesn't make much sense to me. I tend to get caught up in all the head knowledge, the science of God, comparing doctrine, trying to understand the Trinity, etc.
What really matters is what someone knows in their heart-- the depth of Christianity. While there are humans on the earth, I don't believe that any religion can ever be proved.

But this I do believe: I've experienced Truth (note the capital "t") in Jesus Christ. I am convinced of the Truth found in Him as much as I am convinced of my own name. Try as anyone might, that type of truth cannot be disproven once you know it and embrace it. I still might have faith the size of a mustard seed as times, but it's what I've put my faith in, not the amount of faith I have.

But I do want to ask the same question as JimJimmers...What do you want us to pray for?

In Christ,
River

Maybe you could elaborate on your point here... All I see is a statement that arguments against any given religion can typically be used against multiple religions. I don't see how that is an argument against religion in and of itself, but it instead merely seems to be an observation about them.

A little information on the OP before people invest much time here. Let me repeat some thoughts she said stated in chats today.

She claims to come in looking for 'intelligent, OPEN MINDED conversations' about our faith. She later explains shes come to the site to 'open our minds'.

Then she makes a state where she says she will flat out refuse to believe in God 'even if God came down and talked to me Himself, i would think i was hallucinating and not believe it'.

She loves this 'intelligent, open minded' statement of challenge, yet by her own admission she is anything but intelligent or open minded.

Just thought i'd share these statements and sentiments with everyone before they went farther dealing with her and her 'open mind'.

Aren't we supposed to welcome curious minds though? She is curious as to why we Christians believe what we believe.
