You have a very interesting future ahead of you. Hopefully you won't be one of the unprepared ones of Matthew 24:10.
Shouldn't that be I never had that interesting past? What he's describing is the first century when Nero slaughtered the Christians and Jews. I'm not that old.

I will never understand why people comfortable in the luxuries of America think what happened to the first century Christians are doomed to repeat, and how they come up with reasons never to find out what did happen to them.

THEY needed the comfort. Not us.

You've got me curious now... just what gives America a pass?
Who says we are getting a pass? We've hit that spot where we're doomed to fail. The only thing that could save us is a Jonah. But, let's just skip all that reality and keep focusing on pre-, a-, and post- cult stuff created 175 years ago, and leave God out of it.

Sorry, not my thing. That's your game.

If you feel old you will act old. I still feel young. I guess some people want to focus on old age? That's not my game.

I believe the Great Tribulation came and went. Other tribulations continue across the globe, but not in America.

Who says we are getting a pass?
Why does America get a pass on the global tribulations?

I will never understand why people comfortable in the luxuries of America think what happened to the first century Christians are doomed to repeat, and how they come up with reasons never to find out what did happen to them.

THEY needed the comfort. Not us.
I'm not really concerned with first century Christian happenings; but what happenings are coming upon us does concern me. A whole lot of people who don't think for one reason or another that they are going to see the poop hit the fan are going to fail when they see the poop hit the fan. And a lot of those are going to be people who have found comfort in the luxuries of this world... whether they be American, European, or whatever. And if you look beyond your American comfort zone you'll find there's a whooole lotta people that do suffer even in America. Do you not ever read the prayer threads here? I hope when you tuck yourself into that nice comfy American bed at night you say a prayer for someone who's facing their first night on the street. 'Cause I remember what Jesus said about the comfortable farmer and they weren't necessarily good words.

We've hit that spot where we're doomed to fail. The only thing that could save us is a Jonah. But, let's just skip all that reality and keep focusing on pre-, a-, and post- cult stuff created 175 years ago, and leave God out of it.

Ah, ok, you're basking in comfort preaching prosperity even tho you know we're doomed to fail. Are you preparing for that failure or are you again immune? Don't you think we should prepare? We do have our Jonah, thank the Lord. And yes you are absolutely right that we should be focusing on that, and not, how was it Paul put it, on endless genealogies and debates. That's why I don't spend much time in these arenas, and why maybe I'm not fully up to speed on what your other conversation was sharing. But I'm not in the game, I'm sorry if I gave you that impression. Something you said (or maybe more how you say them) caught my eye (ear?).

Frankly I don't think pre-, a-, or post- is the issue anyway. Jesus, again discussing the farmer, said it could be tonight for any one of us. That heart attack, that car crash, that your-ticket-is-punched moment is your rapture. And we are to be prepared for it - Him - at all times. Tribulation or not.

Sorry, babe. That's closer to your trip than mine. We already got the discomfort -- the lost health, the lost retirement savings, the lost income, the lost middle-class. We are not afraid for God sustains us, not comfortable living. We did prepare. All our eggs either broke or rotted. God sustains us. He gave us the tough trip, so we already know we are but sojourners with him.

You on the other hand, are selfish enough to think the first century wasn't about you, so you should worry about your future. The first century IS the New Testament.

Keep thinking some future thing will get you. We've had that future thing happen many times in our lives. Between the two of us -- hubby and me -- we've been raped, raped, raped, abused, lost our parents one way or another (I'm still losing Dad to dementia), broken back, lost our home, rebuilt, paid way more than we owed, lost a job, lost another job, lost jobs together, had a spine damaged causing disabling pain, a degenerating spine, and digestive issues (that are still there), went through chemo, and although the disease was cured, the chemo caused disabling conditions like Tourette's, palsy like tremors, bad balance, unchecked blood pressure problems, and neuropathy, which brought us to three weeks before losing the house and living ten months on $839 a month, but now with the knowledge we will never again -- unless God gives us a miracle -- buy another car, another washing machine, or fix our house, which is, quite literally, crumbling around us. We've already had what you fear the future will be, yet God sustains us.

We've had Psalm 37. We have Psalm 37. You wait for some future event while ignoring the past.

We are in the future -- now and with God in heaven. You keep thinking it's only about you. It's never about us. It's about God getting what he deserves -- glory. That's what you ignore when you refuse to see what happened in that first century. They suffered. We never have.

Historical fact. ALL 'great' nations wax and wane.
And the Grand Ole USA is very clearly on the wane.

But relax. As the edifice crumbles and fragments into a bunch of petty 'third world' nation-states squabbling with each other,
the civilized world will provide aid and sustenance.

I was born at the tail end of the Boom, but my kids can't believe someone as advanced in age as their father still takes them to hoop several times a week, does a respectable job at flag football QB, has them panting to stop on long bike rides, while still working full time.

As far as the world is concerned, though, I am beyond amazed at far and how fast we have morally fallen. My father died in 1979 so never even knew cable television much less smart phones, computers, GPS and so on, but he would be immensely more shocked at the cesspool the culture has become, than the technological advances, if he could see the world today.

Trib posters, please don't hijack my thread.

As a relative newbie, I obviously have a lot to learn.
What, pray tell, is a "Trib poster" ?

And I thought that discussion forums pretty much followed real-life discussions in which conversation flowed pretty loosely from one contribution to another.

Sorry.

A Trib poster is one that posts about the Great Tribulation.

I forgive you if you didn't know.

You assume a whole lot when you have little to no information to go on. You also contradict yourself a lot. Methinks these arise from a lack of understanding. Could be part of your pissy attitude too. I'm bowing out, 'cause it makes no sense to continue a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

I assume 20 hours a day. (I sleep soundly the other 4. lol) That you didn't see what I was saying all along is you assuming. I never came armed. I didn't know you were looking for a fight, until you got there. I was telling you I'm not what you assume, and bow out, so, cool. At least I got bow out.

How many times does it take for you to get up, do you have to rock to get up? If you get down on your knees do you need something to pull yourself up on? How well do you do on theater stairs?

If I don't take my medicine I become a handicap

That 'Osteo Bi Flex' for joint health it really works.

To those who are warring against yourselves, do it elsewhere, not in this thread - this is a light-hearted thread.

I know that this board is real loose with little moderations, but that give you no right to take-over my thread.
