Now, see.... you did pretty well until you said the rifle was designed to "KILL" at over a mile. That would be like my saying that your air pistol was designed to shoot someone's eye out at 25 feet..... that is NOT what it was designed to do. Will it do it? Of course, but that is not the intended purpose of the design.

There are many rifles that are designed to punch holes in paper at long distances. Heck, the newer bolt action and autoloading rifles chambered for the .50 BMG cartridge were not designed for killing people. The .50 BMG was designed to be an anti-materiel cartridge... for shooting mechanical things (like trucks and airplanes) to make them not work any more.

Not every firearm is designed to kill people.

And, saying that people (young guys) have a subconscious desire to blow people away is fairly prejudicial, don't you think? I certainly have no desire to do that, nor did I have that desire when I was younger.

Young men did not shoot up schools until recent history.... co-incidentally in the same era as violent video games realistically enacting shooting people, and the prevalent use of psycho-tropic, mood/personality-changing prescription drugs.

If you do a modicum of research, I believe you will find that EVERY one of the school shooters was either on, or recently discontinued the use of one of those types of drugs.
For the record, the last three times I ate squirrel stew, the squirrels were brought to our bowls by an air gun. (Dad had a thing against squirrels digging in his yard, but the results were delicious.)

I'd post my guns, but they are not nearly as interesting.

And I sadly lost ALL of them in a boating accident :p
Note for future reference: Do NOT shoot guns into the bottom of the boat.

(Humor. But where my mind goes.)

Hey guys this is Keanu Reeves on a competition-style shooting course just several days ago. He's actually quite good! (and he has a nice-looking support team there :))

Well. Look at it from our point of view.
Imagine if there was no rule against "recommending" drugs and someone started a "How would you get high?" thread.
Wouldn't any of you butt it to tell people not to? (I know it isn't the same THING, but from the perspective of those of us who don't like firearms it's simply a bad thing, just like I assume most of you would feel about drugs)
You'd be hearing all sorts of flack from me, that's for sure. But because the politicians/news people are out to shut down all narcotics in this country, and I'm of the 97%ers -- the people who are dependent on narcotics to survive chronic pain, but aren't addicts.

That's the difference. For guns or drugs, most people are responsible, and yet everyone wants to protect everyone else from the 3%ers. Guns fed me half of my meals when I was growing up. AND they gave my family a lot of pleasure as a hobby.

No one but God can protect us from 3%ers.

I don't understand why all you 1911 lovers don't get on the Hi-Power train. It's the successor to the 1911 that John Browning was designing at the time of his death. It's basically a double stack 1911. The design was finished at FN in Belgium in 1935.

psssst.... it's because it's a wimpy 9mm......

actually, I always thought the HiPower was a double action pistol, because of the positioning of the trigger.... it was a number of years before I found out it was, indeed, a single action.... but, alas, still a 9mm :)

And now my thought is, "Who patches the hole in the wall? Because I'm not very good at handyman work."
Rule #2 ..... keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.

Rule #1...... treat EVERY gun as if it is loaded

I am one of the people that believes that once something has been designed properly, there is no need for me to continue questing after it's revisions or redesigns.

I don't see a problem here. I love the 9mm round.

yeah, me too..... I was only playing devil's advocate for the .45 and larger crowd....

I own only one .45.... the rest are all .358" and smaller in diameter.

Yeah I was thinking that myself.....two center mass and one between the eyes.......HOW long did Navy Seals use the MP 9 or Jewish Commandos?........just like a .22 round will kill you dead....all about shot placement at the end of the day......

I've never fired a Hi-Power before. Probably because you cannot find even the new ones for less than $1,000.

It was just never as popular as the 1911 and therefore replacement parts and the like are more common too. And if someone's in the market for a 1911 doublestack now, there are a lot more choices and holster options for the polymer pistols.

Those are just my guesses. I'm sure the Hi-Power is a greaaaat gun if money is no object. Anything I have ever shot by R Moses was brilliant. Like butter.

The .45 thing is worth bringing up. .45 is something of a niche round for the quintessential 1911.

I mean I know other guns are chambered in .45, but if I say .45, the first and probably only gun you think of for the next 5 minutes will not be a Glock 30s.

9mm is great (my preferred pistol round), but the Hi-Power is not THE GUN for it.

Hi power fits the 1911 holsters. ;) Also, mine is not 1k. It's a European "off brand" made quite some time ago. Even though Browning didn't mfg it I still like it a lot.

"R" Moses?
I have a Hi-Power and find it perhaps the most pointable pistol I have.
Really fits me well, many clones around the world, many.

The Belgian HiPowers seem to rival the Sig P210's in fit and finish... I'm not sure about accuracy, though. The Sigs pretty much have that market cornered, I think.... this, of course is all hearsay.... I've never shot either...

My point wasn't really about drugs. :) It was about some people wanting an echo room, whining that people disagree witht them.
So I made a point by suggesting I doubt they will stay out of threads With topics they disagree With :)
