There is something in the way. I do not know what it is, but I have heard stories of where it came from. It is the reason in questions before the quest. It is the shadow that steps forward when I step back. It is the push of two steps back when I take two steps forward. It is the difference between patience with knowing, and knowing with trust. If the starting point is the only light, with darkness all around me, then I travel with a shield held high and eyes alert. In the distance, I am told there are other lights, some moving, some waiting for a start. Still there is something in the way. It disconnects the path before me, preventing sight of the future way. But still I travel in direction, not on course, but with the faith. No longer in front, there is something at both sides. I must agree with its purpose, and now travel in stride. Some light behind its eyes so dark. I don't trust the company I keep, but I keep it smart. It saves me now, it to is alert. There are times when I see so far ahead, that what was in the way now spares me hurt. Now it looks to me for answers, and listens with eager intent. One misstep or hesitation and it moves quick to take the front and once again be in the way. But two steps taken in quick succession leave it far behind. Now there is something in pursuit. I know how large it is when facing front. I've seen how kind it is when its company is kept. Now I see how small and darting it is as it tries to catch me before I reach my destination and am completely clear. I also see how dangerous the world may seem to some without it. To all just ends and new beginnings it must be there. In the way, as you face it. Beside you as you travel on and learn to embrace it. And behind you as you see what it truly is when left and viewed with the distance passed. It is wrong, it is right, but not good or bad. It is fear, and its misuse is always there. From start, to finish, from finish to a purpose to start anew. It is in all directions, worn, seen, and inspired. There is only one way to gain from its power. Faith in the journey, and all of its purpose. And hope in all life, and faith that no matter how small a part of it each day may be, that none of it is worthless.
