I have always wanted to find the tail off an old windmill, and hang it on my wall. Somehow, I think it would be a good thing to do.

My wife thinks I'm nuts.

This guy has what I want.....

Your wife may think it's nuts.
You may think it's nuts.
I may think it's nuts.
It may in fact BE nuts.
But I can't think of a single reason you shouldn't do it. I can't think of a reason you would want to get one, but I can't think of a single objection either. Who would it hurt?

Go for it!

LOL ...Every time I say I want to do it, she says, "you're not putting that on MY wall".....

Of course, stupid me, I say "well, just tell me which walls are yours, and which are mine.."

She just looks at me..... you know....that look. Although, once she said I could hang it out on a garage wall....

Do you live financially well now too? and if so is there anywhere in particular you would love to visit? Sorry I just get really excited talking about seeing the world I know I can never hope to do it but hearing of others doing it makes me happy lol
Blain, I drove a truck for ten years. A few of which spanned 48-States and Canada. You would be surprised at the different culture caches throughout our countries here. You can have a pretty good time, but you don't have time to pause and take photos.

That reminds me... When I was a teenager I wanted to be a truck driver. Back then it was still considered to be a cool job and I heard it paid well back then too.. But my parents insisted that I go to college instead.. (didn't exactly go to college either)

I went there with my dad, when I was about 8 or 9.... it was huge, then. I imagine you should plan for at least 2 days, if not 3, to see it all.

I think it would be more interesting than the British Museum... we went through part of that, and, while there were some amazing things there (Rosetta Stone, for example) it gets a little overwhelming .... "how many more Egyptian statues can we stand?" kind of thing.
I've heard you could spend a week just in the air and space part of it

Yeah see that would be an issue for me I am one to sit there for like hours and take everything in also truckers have to be up for like over 48 hours sometimes all the caffeine in the world could not let me do that lol

To experience it all, I imagine that is likely true.

I might get into "sensory overload" pretty quickly.

Wow, what is sensory overload?
Too many new things to see and experience.... just one "wow" after another, until you get sort of numb to the wonder of it all. Much like we did in the British Museum. Seeing old Egyptian statues and things like that. You finally get to the point of saying, well, there's another lion statue... instead of actually looking at it, and marveling at the workmanship, and the amazing fact that something like that has lasted for a couple of thousand years.

an "overload" condition of your senses....

I wanted to meet my Maker before my 60th birthday.

Guess we all know how that worked out.

I traveled the world while I was young enough to do it. Been to places as remote as Chuuk Lagoon and Bikini Atoll. Thru Europe and Israel twice (lol I just found an old picture of me being baptized in the Jordan River in 1990). Done the Holocaust tour and then some. Dove with sharks among WWII naval wrecks. Done things and gone places very few in this world get to do or go. Planes trains and automobiles (and ships!).

But like Blain said, it costs money. And children. Never could have done it if I'd had children. Kinda one reason why I wanted to meet my Maker before 60. Now I gotta figger out who's going to take care of me as I senile out ;)

Ya ya, I know, I'm already there

Did you get anything interesting out of all your adventures.

I would really like to take up my old hobby of medieval combat.
I really enjoyed sword fighting ( hand and a half and long sword) along with ax and shield .
It is a really cool way to let off stress . My wife an family just shake their heads.
It’s probably from the 14 plus broken ribs , several broken fingers and the 4 or so concussions .
LoL Over a 10 year period of course.
Blessings
Bill

ooh there is a museum in our city which puts on sword fighting demonstrations and
medieval displays of falconry, jousting, archery etc.

The demonstrators actually get paid for having fun!

I wanted to be a veterinary assistant but never got the opportunity.

I did 3 weeks work experience as a 15 year old at a vets, that was brilliant.
I even got to help with the operations. In one a dog had swallowed a ball I had to
swab the stomach while it was stitched up. Then the vet started rummaging around
inside the dog showing me different bits like the spleen it was a strange
purple colour. It was awesome!

A friend who was with me fainted. lol

I had to sit with a dog on a drip to make sure it didn’t wonder off.
Plus wrap up a cat so it didn’t scratch the vets face off.
Catch a budge when it bit the vet and flew off.
Hold down a snake while it was wormed.
Help look after a gerbil with piles!

Plus much much more.

Absolutely loved every minute.

I actually have been on a cruise to the caiman Islands once, even just staring at the ocean waves at night left me in awe and watching the sun rise in the middle of the ocean is like nothing you ever see that alone made me hungry for more.
Turtles! A turtle sanctuary on Caiman Islands, and you watched the waves?

(I have a thing about turtles, and my dad took all his kids on a cruise once. Lots of memories of Caiman Islands for a mere 4 hour stay, but turtles was the best. lol)

I really want my novel to be published traditionally through an agent. It's looking less and less like that will happen.

Might end up trying directly with a publisher next, or maybe indie publishing. Kind of stuck on the first idea, so who knows what happens if that doesn't.

BUT one of the reasons I wanted it agent has come true. I wanted an agent to see if it was good enough to be published traditionally. One agent asked for the full ms. Another one gave a personalized rejection letter. She liked it. She just didn't get to full-on loving it.

Agents already have clients, so they only rep books they fall head-over-heels with. Because I won't seek representation from agents who push the world's agendas, I only had a list of 89 agents to query. Since my novel is about stuffed animals, (a very niche book), it has been good to learn it is good-enough, even if they didn't fall in love with it.

(Note to self: Never challenge Bill to a sword fight. I'd be working with a foil and haven't fenced since I was 15. He's had broken bones and had concussions.)

wow that places looks beautiful on google if you ever go make sure to take plenty of pics so I admire them :D
Contrary to popular thought, there isn't one Smithsonian. There are many. You've seen pictures of the reflecting pool in DC, right? (Picture the crowds at MLK's "I had a dream" speech, and that water in the crowd is the reflecting pool.) Try a wider shot of that pool. Big enough to see the buildings around it. Most, (if not all), of those buildings are part of the Smithsonian!

We went to the Natural History one, and barely got out of the lobby. (HUGE dino skeleton in the lobby. Who wants to leave that? lol) I think the aeronautics museum has moved since we went, but imagine seeing a Mercury capsule, the Wright brother's plane, Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, and a Boeing 727 all in one room! MASSIVE! (The Spirit of St. Louis looked like a model airplane, the room was so big.)

If you ever get to DC, plan a week of nothing but Smithsonian. And you'll still never see all of it!

We went to DC for a weekend, and came home wondering if we'd ever get around to seeing "The Smithsonian." We never went to see the White House or Lincoln Memorial. (Did see the Korean War Memorial. Went to DC before the VN War memorial was done, so didn't see that either.) I've been to DC twice. Both times the Washington Monument (big needle) was closed for repairs. All in all, the Smithsonian was all we did, besides just enjoying the sights, and we barely touched it.

Basement wall is no-man's land. (My brother stole a "Children at Play" sign when we were kids. He outgrew it. I haven't. It's on my/our basement wall. lol)

Nope. Definitely one big WOW! And the WOW last forever. But I do remember a lot of it. Most of it was proportion stuff. Like "They came back from outer space in that tiny little thing?" And then when you get up close to it, it's still small, but not the type of small that you can't see how they could do it. It might fit in my living room, but there would be no room for living in anymore. And then compare that capsule to St. Louis? Suddenly Lindy doesn't seem quite as loony. (Ah, he really does. No one can fly such a dodgy plane over the Atlantic.) And then to go from there to a 727? A jet I've been in before? Sheer comfort happened somewhere along the way.

I would love to go back to compare the 727 with the Challenger. It's very much a proportional Wow!, along with a "How nuts were those guys to even try this?" Wow!

Every boy should go to the aeronautics museum, no matter how old he is. (And, obviously quite a few girls too. lol) It's Christmas morning for men.

As a woman, I admired the guts of many men of the past to do what they did. As a guy? I suspect mechanics was more on hubby's mind than "Were they nuts?", but I'm sure "Were they nuts?" settles in the brain. Along with, "Thank God for nuts!"

It was one big room, (big enough that the 727 looked small too), but going inside the 727 is like going inside a room within a room.
