Dear Brothers and Sisters, I was recently sent to a work assignment at a kindergarden but I arrived at the train station near the kindergarden late for the stated time I was supposed to arrive by 24 minutes, This was due to my own lack of preparation in not checking out train timetables , and deciding to visit macdonalds for a quick bite and visiting the bathroom. just before the time I was supposed to arrive I called the kindergarden to tell them I was running late and they said it was no problem. The assignment at the kindergarden went really well as I still had more than enough time to prepare and alll the kids and staff were very happy with my work, My question is wether I should let my manager know of my initial lateness which the kindergarden didnt worry about. If i do it will probably become quite a big deal and I think ill have to submit a report 、phone calls will have to be made and the management will lose some confidence in me to arrive on time in the future. I am 100 percent absolutely sure that the kindergarden would not have complained at all as they were very happy with my work but my manager would probably see it differently, should I let my boss know what happened or should I just let this slide and arrive on time next time? My thanks for any help you can offer.

what is company policy? if you don't say anything and it is discovered later.....it could be grounds for immediate dismissal

He who knows good and does not do it, to him it is sin. (James 4:17)

Your honesty may not be as deserving of reprimanding as you think, but you know your management better than I do. Follow your conviction. :)

Dear Bjchat,
From what you said it seems like you have the feeling you should tell it to your manager, but you also found some excuses for not telling it to your manager. So its not okay with you already to not tell it, but you're trying to talk yourself out of it. That makes me think that you should tell it, no matter what the consequences are.. But who am i to advise you, when i just know a little little bit of the story: ask the Lord what to do; He knows you through and through! :)

I think this is a pretty good plan... stick to company policy.

Is it YOUR responsibility to mention things if you're a few minutes late and nobody cares?
Is it the school's responsibility?
Maybe this is "implied" somewhere in company policy but not spelled out?

Maybe it's not company policy to inform your superiors, but it could cause big problems if they found out, and then perhaps thought you had tried to hide it or deceive them. In that case, it's better they hear it from you, as you can present it with some care and diplomacy.

Best to stick to company policy, whether it is official or just an implied expectation.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,...
@Bjchat So you had travelling mistakes due to a less than diligent attitude, honestly that's nothing, you felt burnt, learnt from the mistake, you called ahead to let people know.

Forget protecting yourself against negative reputation in this case, it isn't wrong or right to report this to the manager (unless its policy), but it is very beneficial to have an honesty relationship to a senior manager - then they feel they can ask anything, uncorrupted by the power relationship.

I would not approach him/her with this as a big deal, but if you can get a conversation going about the trip, pass the admission "actually I was stupid towards travelling preparations, and was forced to call ahead"
