I use Ubuntu. It's less likely to be hacked, and most of my work is on Internet. I still use Windows XP for harddrive recording, as Ubuntu does not acknowledge all my sound input channels correctly. This poses a problem as I cannot get the "microphone appoval" window to open for CC chat. It seems to be the same kind of permissions flaw as in recognizing Citrix client. I can't change the permissions for certain certificates, no matter how many times I go through the motions.

If im not mistaking CC Chat uses Flash. (I dont use flash at all so I never been in the chat)

But chances are the Flash isnt playing nice with the sound

something you could try Main Page - Linux Mint they seem to have better codec support then ubuntu. (worth a shot)

Is there anyway to get the codec without going to a third operating system? Don't they use pretty much the same version of Firefox and plugins? I have so much going on in so many fields that it takes me a year to convert OS with any certainty.

Mint comes with all the codecs installed.

problem would be figuring out what codec you need. or if its just a flash issue (which id almost best money the problem is with flash)

If you download the full package, anyway.

There are variations of codecs as well. Heck, there are different versions of LAME MP3 codecs alone. But a codec should not be the problem when it comes to Flash.

I recall having the mic issue as well. It seemed to only "allow" if I opted for "I will use a webcam". But in Windows, I can opt out of this, and still use the mic; just no video feed.

I love this thread! I am still trying to follow the directions for plugging my speakers in.
And bristling over Windows doing all my thinking for me when MS-DOS did everything.

I used Unbuntu once, and thanks to a friend managed to use it to recover my lost files from a crashed Windows OS :D
Haven't used it after that though, it takes too much tinkering to make everything work the way I want it to. I need a Linu nerd nearby ifI am to make that my main OS

They're attempting to unify devices of all form factors under one umbrella OS and streamline the whole cloud thing, so don't hold your breath. ;)

Aren't they the same thing? Linux Mint is built from Ubuntu. I like that they allow different downloads now with the Cinnamon UI. :)

they strip all the ubuntu branding. strip some of the bad stuff ubuntu has snuck in. add all the codecs strip unity add Gnome 3 w/ cin. and much more. which is why mint releases several weeks later then ubuntu.

If that photo, kenisyes, is actually one of you, I think that you have the look of a Linux user...and if you could see a photo of myself you would probably say I was a Windows user...and you probably would be right! lol...

It is indeed a photo of me, taken about a month ago at a restuarant. Just how can you deduce operating system from a photo?
