What annoys and concerns me is the trend to shout down those who are perceived as having views which are different than "my" own.

This is increasingly common behaviour among feminists, climate-change warriors, alphabet-soupers, Clinton supporters, and Islam-is-a-peaceful-religionists. They can't defeat logic and facts, so they jeer, disrupt, protest, shout, and generally make themselves as irritating as possible, and the popular media eats it up. They demand that their feelings are more important than truth, and that everyone make allowances for them, while they make allowances for no-one. They scream "tolerance" while being the most intolerant of all.

What is more scary is that Western nations are making laws which support and protect this behaviour. It would not surprise me to wake up in a world with thought police. We're not that far from it. Free speech? Yes, certainly, but only if you agree with their agenda. Otherwise, you are told to shut the ( ) up!
What's even scarier is the News Forum on this site has become the same thing.

It seems like every TV show or movie I watch nowadays uses Jesus Christ's name as a curse word. Its not even just said once or twice, it gets used repeatedly. And the amount of atheists commenting on Christian YouTube videos is also extremely annoying.

I agree 110%! They all want to say they are tolerant and that the Christian population should be more tolerant and stop being hateful and blah blah, yet they are the most intolerant and hateful bunch. They only see one view, their own.

Well, I guess it has always been around, but it is getting worse;

The job ads expecting people to be equally good at skills or character traits that are opposites

Good team player - Working individually
Works fast - Is though and pays attention to details

...and when they ask for good language skills and the ad has like ten grammatical errors...

i don't really see Christians who write and perform hip-hop ((or other genres)) as "the church adopting worldly ways" so much as it is individual believers seeking to put their God-given talents to God's use. the testimonies of individual artists i have heard/read are more likely to be that these people were already into hip-hop, became believers, and started lyrically changing what they were already doing so that it brought glory to God instead of to whatever junk they were previously rapping about, or that they just continued rapping about themselves and their inner struggles and what they see going on in the world, but having been redeemed, started speaking the gospel in these songs, because the gospel had now become their lives.
for the most part they were already writing rap, or heavy metal, or electronica, or reggae, or whatever, and when they met Jesus, they wanted to use what they knew to praise Him instead of singing about the world anymore. not a conscious decision to try to be worldly and/or "
seeker-friendly" but a re-purposing of their pre-existing talents and inclinations.

i'm not sure i've ever heard/read an artist's testimony that went like, we were just regular church-goers, and started writing hi-hop songs and playing them at sunday morning meetings because the kids in our neighborhood weren't attending and we hoped that phat beats pumping out of the chapel would attract them.

i've heard of congregations doing things like this, going from pipe-organ or piano to contemporary spiritual songs and instrumentation, hoping that an already-existing younger membership would be more engaged in worship, but not you know, the choir director sitting down and deciding to become a rapper.
I understand what you are saying. I don't think it is anything to fall out about- it is a tertiary issue at best. I do think that there is a different attitude when it comes to singing hymns than rapping. There is more of a reverential attitude toward God, I think when singing hymns. I know this sounds kind of fuddy duddy ish. I wonder also, if it is a turn off for older people in the church. I understand the idea of appealing to youth- but is appealing to youth at the expense of alienating older people really worth it? I can remember when I was a teenager and Carman was popular with the teens in my cousins' church. I can remember at a service hearing the teens sing "JC in the House", it just seemed wrong to me- even then. Like it was disrespectful. Maybe I have always been an old woman in spirit, that is quite likely.

I do remember my uncle there with a pained expression on his face. I could tell he didn't like what was going on in the service, but it seemed like it was anything to appeal to the youth sort of service. Anyway, like I said- it is nothing to fall out over. I don't dispute the fact that the people you site are saved. And I know Christians listen to Christian rap and rock, it just isn't my thing.

If anyone can get saved through listening to Christian rap, then I can definitely not say anything about it in that respect, at all. I think if churches want to employ Christian rap and Christian rock, they should have a special music service just for teens while the main song service is traditional for older people or people who don't like the contemporary music very much, that might be a happy compromise.

i used to say, if rap was instrumental, i like it, but none of it that has vocals.

a few years ago i was kind of "forced" to listen to a lot of Christian hip-hop, and started paying attention to what they were actually saying ((trying not to focus on the whole compositions and style lol)) and became convinced of its worth by what was being said and talked about. there's a lot of fluff and plastic-pop out there in the genre, sure, and irrelevant glam. but i got introduced to more serious and theologically sound stuff too, and discovered that there are many people out there rapping very profound truth, and that there is a lot of heartfelt, genuine praise and testimony in this genre.

i got turned on to it by the content, not the style, and i was sorry that i had dismissed it all before. purely as a vehicle for teaching, preaching and testimony, it lends itself very well to this because of how it presents long batches of spoken-word and can contain a whole lot more lyrics than most other genres. i see that now, and see how many ((not all)) of the artists really are genuine in what they are doing, and how it has value and use.

I can understand what you mean. It is very true that kids are into rap music. I should know as I teach teenagers. If they must listen to rap, it is much better that they listen to Christian rap than secular. It is not for me, however. But I do understand what your points are and they are valid. Kids could remember things spoken in rap, I should imagine.

I'm annoyed with not being able to find plain...anything. Every week or so (or so it seems), food manufacturers are debuting some new flavored variety of their products...grr. How many cotton-picking varieties of potato chips do we really need? What's next Lay's? Orange juice and toothpaste flavored potato chips?

hey on that subject, "
plain potato chips" annoy me.

there is no such thing as "
plain potato chips"

they are obviously
potato-flavored potato chips, and i would like it better if crisp brokers admitted to the fact instead of patronizingly trying to jump on the "plain-wagon".

I think rap is like Japanese Opera or golf -- apparently people like it, but I don't get why.

It's been around for at least 34 years now. I've done my part to dissuade young people from listening to it. I keep thinking if a frumpy old white woman dances to it, it will make young people want to vomit and come up with something different. Hasn't worked yet, so I guess I shouldn't pull my pants down to my hips either.

First Christian rap song, (and last one I liked):

I couldn't listen to very much of that. The only thing I could distinguish, was "Who you're trying to kid, kid?" and something about dancing cheek to cheek.

I like the lyrics (except the dweeby "uh-huhs.")
Now L.A. hip and N.Y. chic
Been dancin' lately cheek to cheek
While Midwest good ole boys like me
Should all be playing catch-up, see

Subscribe to the Village Voice in throngs
And guess who gigs at Madame Wong's
Well drop your pens and pant designs
And drop six words in your open minds

Who you tryin' to kid, kid?
To the Hollywood school
Teaching everything's cool
Who you tryin' to kid, kid?
To the Greenwich mockingbird
Who has gotta have the last word
Got your head together now?
Got a way that's better now?
Who you tryin' to kid, kid?

(Ha, ha)

(Say what?)

(Bad rap)
(Uh huh)

You save the whales
You save the seals
You save whatever's cute and squeals
But you kill "that thing" that's in the womb
Would not want no baby boom

Good, bad, laugh and scorn
Blame yourself for kiddie porn
Convenience is the law you keep
And your compassion's ankle deep

Who you tryin' to kid, kid?
Wrap it in a fine philosophy
Who you tryin' to kid, kid?
But your bottom line still says "me me me"
Got your head together now?
Got a way that's better now?
Who you tryin' to kid, kid?

(Are you ready for this?)

You'll march if all the streets are full
A two-bit closet radical
No time to check the end result
Expedience is your catapult
Convictions make your skin to crawl
You act like you're above it all
You say faith is a crutch for a mind that's closed
You guzzle your crutch and shove it up your nose

(Uh huh)

(Woah)

Who you tryin' to kid, kid?
To my left wing band with their head in the sand
Who you tryin' to kid, kid?
To the "might makes right" playin' chicken delight
Got your head together now?
Got a way that's better now?
Who you tryin' to kid, kid?

(Huh!)

Can't understand those Christians
So you type us all in stereo
They're hypocrites
They're such a bore
Well come on in,
There's room for one more

(Bad rap)
(Uh huh)

(Bad rap)
(Uh huh)

(Uh huh)

So now you're mad;
Who is this guy
To bake us all in one big pie?
You think I care?
Forget it, hon!
You've just been shot
With your own gun

(Bad rap
(Uh huh)

Sugar Hill's gonna need a pill

(Bad rap)
(Uh huh)

Grand master Flash gonna get a rash

If an atheist comments on a christian music video because they like the song, then I don't care good for them. However its annoying those who purposely want to troll or spread hate for no reason.

I do get annoyed by ignorance and more importantly intolerance which people deny they have but they always do. I've seen it in this chat as well. It's a popular way of thinking, they HAVE to agree with your beliefs but you don't have to agree with their beliefs.
