My first time to fly was...I was crying till the plane landed on the ground but it was not because I was scared :D I was thinking of my family way back home :D

The only thing that scares me when flying is the airplane turbulence :D I remember the last time I flew leaving Philippines was a bit scary :D the airplane was so shaky that I thought it was going to crash uggghhh but It doesn't stop me from flying because there is no other way I can go home but through flying :D

It is still enjoyable the skies are amazing the clouds the different forms of the clouds :) at night when the plane is about to touch down you can see the beautiful lights, the cars, the roads, the houses, the trees it is beyond beautiful :) so peaceful from above ❤

Yes, I like the night view, too :)

I scuba and am not afraid of being 60 feet under; in fact love it! The surface world disappears. The idea of dropping out of the sky scares the crap out of me. I drive everyday morning and evening rush hour, and I know flying is safer, but I think it scares me so much because I have no control. The others at least give me a sense of control.... Oh goodness I have to trust G-d!!!!

True. In fact, we have to trust Him for everything.

I am infatuated with modern military fighter jets. What a thrill to see them take off, listen to them roar across the sky, and watch them land so smoothly. It’s awesome!

Actually flying in a jet? No, I don’t like it. The turbulence is too much for me. The last time I flew, the fuselage rattled like a tin can ready to come apart. Even the flight attendants looked worried. It was not a fun time.

What makes flying less scary?

Not being in the plane when it takes off.

The gifs are funny! :D
By the way, how do you add a video or a gif to a post? Thanks :)

There are icons above the text message box when you go to reply to any thread. The far right one is quote wrap, and beside that (to the left) is the insert video icon. You need to copy the url of the video you wish to post, and insert/paste it into the line provided when the app opens after clicking that icon. Then click okay :) To the left of the video icon is the one for inserting images. Make sure the image url has the proper extension (.gif .jpeg .jpg or .png) and make sure to click OFF Retrieve remote file and reference locally. Many cannot add images directly from their computers, in which case, you could use an image host: upload your image there (https://postimages.org/ for instance) and copy the direct link to the image to paste into the insert image app here. If you are on a phone, you may have to go full site (bottom left of page).

It's safer than an automobile. Except when an automobile breaks/crashes, it isn't 35000 ft high lol.

I like flying but I still get scared every time I fly.
But I enjoy cloud-watching (if there's such a term as that), so it makes flying less scary for me. :D

You can read more here:

What about you? What makes flying less scary for you?
Being superman would make flying less scary for me,lol.

When I was young flying did not seem to bother me all that much, but now that I am older it bothers me more, but that is probably because we are more bold, and optimistic when we are young.

Like drinking alcohol when we were young,ah nothing is going to happen but it will go smooth concerning my drunkeness in the way of me being belligerent, or wanting to fight, or someone wanting to fight, or cannot operate the car properly, but when you are older you are more cautious, the same as with a lot of things.

But I would still fly and I believe everyone is scared of flying for you would have to be, but they got it under control where they can tolerate it very much.

There is no way you can be up that high and not be scared, all because of that Murphy character that had to come up with those stupid laws and make us worry.

Who cares about the speed for when you are up that high the speed that you were going means nothing once you go down.

Ok... I am still on break so y'all didn't see this or read this... :p :p :p  (but I just had to answer the question since it is my favorite topic..)

1... Don't be afraid of turbulence. All modern airliners are required to withstand at least 2 g's of turbulence and they can actually withstand more, except anything over 2 g's requires an inspection after the plane lands. Fighter planes can withstand 7 G's!

Two G's means twice the force of gravity. When you are sitting in a plane, you are experiencing 1 G. Two g's is a force great enough to make you weigh twice your weight against your seat.... so if you are a woman and weigh 120lbs, it is enough force to make you exert 240 lbs of pressure against your seat.

2... All plane crashes are caused by a series of negative events. If only one thing goes wrong, a plane will not crash. For example, in the Air France flight 447 crash here were the events:

- plane entered big violent storm instead of going around it (pilot's bad judgement)

- the freak storm contained supercooled water which causes instant ice and freezing

- the plane's exterior pitot tubes filled with ice so the plane's autopilot and computer started freaking out

- the pilots had to turn off the autopilot and fly by hand

- the plane climbed so high to avoid the storm that it was in air too thin and it stalled (became too slow to fly and started to fall)

- the pilot at the controls did not understand how to correct for a stall and did the opposite of what he should have done (inadequate training at Air France)

- the chief pilot was taking a break in the crew quarters when all this was happening

- by the time the chief pilot came into the cockpit to see what was wrong, the plane was in a deep unrecoverable stall

- the chief pilot confirmed that the copilot had been doing the opposite of what he should have been doing, just before the plane crashed into the ocean.

3.... All airliners can fly without engine power. An engine failure is not a problem for airliners. Even if they lose all engine power they can still glide to the nearest airport. That is one of the reasons why they fly so high... AND the pilots always plan the flight route so that they always have an alternate emergency airport nearby. The only exception is trans-oceanic flights of course... but those planes are required to have special equipment and certification called ETOPS (extended-range twin engine operations), unless they have 4 engines like a 747 or A380.

So you see... flying is much safer than people think it is. Its only scary if you watch too many plane crashes on the news or on youtube...

You have to die one day, anyway. Why not do it with style?

(that didn't help, did it? )

I wish I could help you but I don't like flying either. I've done it but was to afraid to leave my seat until the plane landed. I hate the takeoff because it feels like I'm falling. I have been on a plane with terrible turbulence. It sounded like the plane was going to break apart. Then we hit an airpocket and the plane dropped quite a few feet. I haven't flown since.

Well, guess I wasn't much help with making flying easier for you....

sorry..

I’ve not flown very much. The first time was kind of nerve wracking, but the other times I enjoyed it- even the tubulence. It felt like a roller coaster ride. If it upsets you, take a tranquilizer. I had a minor outpatient procedure a couple of years ago, and was given a valium for first time and everything was copacetic. I can seriously see how people can get addicted to pills.

Wow, that's informative. I guess I would be less scared the next time I fly.

It's very interesting actually how planes can fly that high. I like techy stuff, so learning about these things always amazes me. Thanks for sharing!

I'm sorry about your bad experience. I like flying actually. I like being up there in the air. It's just that sometimes I still get scared. But the more I fly, the less scary it becomes actually.
