What would you do?

I can't remember if I have asked this question here before, but I need to ask it now.

I live in an apartment, next door to some kids (20-25yrs). They smoke some sort of illegal drug and it stinks up my apartment and the apartments around our because all of our vents are connected. I, and serveral other tenants have complained to managements several times about them smoking and the stench. All we are getting are excuses for them smoking inside of their apartment.

My question is: What else can I do? Call the police? I believe that should be managent job, since they know about and is doing nothing about it? Ask for another apartment? I don't know what to do here and any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Have you confronted your neighbors directly?

You can call the police but A) your neighbors will likely be pissed at you and it probably wouldn't fix the problem, because (as far as I know) I don't think the police can enter the premises unless they let them in, which they probably wouldn't. So I highly doubt they'd get arrested. And B) they might be understanding. Maybe management didn't really do much, maybe they genuinely don't realize they're bothering you. Talking to them would make sure they know that this isn't ok and if they don't do anything after that threatening or calling the police would make sense.

I think there are better ways to deal with it rather than calling the police, but if all else fails that's certainly an option.

Also, are your apartments smoke-free?

I wouldn't confront them because that is very dangerous, things might get heated and someone could get hurt, you and the other tenants could send the management a notorized letter through certified mail because they have to sign for it acknowleging that they received the letter.

If they're smoking pot then I'm willing to bet money that they're not dangerous. If you're scared do it outside or in the hall, or have someone else with you.
