what if ?

a)
if every morning you give a very special greeting to everyone then your supervisor decides one day to give the special greeting and except for a few words say it just as you do, every day after you do yours, especially when the corporate people or other management are there ?

b)
today i was in a store to purchase two fans , the cashier came over really fast and asked if we were paying in cash and then said i'll give you both of them for $20 just pay for something like a candy bar , i said oh no your making me nervous and NO.! ,then she said oh come on you'll be helping me pay my phone bill,.my husband told her that's not something my wife would do and she looked at my husband and said that's okay your wife's not comfortable doing that and walked away. my husband said she's probably has been doing that for awhile .

so how would you approach these situations ?

Thanks

A. If I gave a greeting, I gave it from the heart, regardless who else decided to use it for their own gains, thus I would not change any aspect of that situation and would continue to give the greeting as sincerely as I ever have.

B. Dishonesty is dishonesty. I'm pretty sure what the cashier did is not by the book, regardless if she really needed the money for a bill of some sort. Besides, does it seem right that she would feel more comfortable doing something of that nature than asking a close friend or family member, or even the boss if the situation was really that desperate? I currently owe a fair amount of money and I've no idea how I'm going to deal with it, but I know one thing for sure; if I had been that cashier I would rather ask someone I know for the money as opposed to doing something I honestly shouldn't be doing and having someone else participate in that matter. From the other side it's not a matter of not wanting to be generous; giving is a good thing that can even feel good at times. doing something against an establishment for the sole purpose of proving that you would be generous though doesn't sound like generocity anymore.

i still do my greeting that everyone enjoy, and although i got in a different line the cashier really surprised me and it seemed really strange that she would risk her job like that, but she did approach other people

Thank You Nocturnus

I think I would be flattered if someone started using the same greeting I used each morning. It sounds like you have something good going on and your supervisor noticed how others responded to it. Maybe the supervisor felt the need to be accepted like you are?

The whole fan thing is just crazy. I cannot believe how brave she was about that. She is stealing from her employer by doing that!! I pray she sees the error of her ways and steps away from the sin. Honestly, I am a fairly blunt person so I probably would have scolded her for that and told her that what she was doing is wrong and a crime. But, it is really hard to say 100% what I would have done since I was not there.

yes that's a good way of looking at the greeting , and the store i go there several times a month but i will still go there but when possible go to the other cashier, i'm sure she won't ask me something like that again. honesty is always best, not always popular but always best

Thanks Toska

The greeting ............ no response............for me no big deal.........From 1984 until 1991 I had a business and greeted every customer with "Morning sunshine........" Now everyone says that (or almost everyone.........)

The Store Clerk? I would have found the Manager/Owner and informed them............Employee theft is the largest expense businesses incur and such theft costs the customer far more than they will ever realize...........Someone has to pay for the loss of merchandise/stock, and that cost is past on to the customer.......

Aside from that.............(look down......read signature line)

as for the greeting, I would'nt really mind, but I probably WOULD ask the supervisor to word it differently than my greeting just so that its not exactly the same. As for the cashier, I would've said no way and reported her to a manager right then and there!! :)
