I have talk to some people here who believe others are dead wrong and they need to set you straight. Some even rebuke the person the are talking to in the form of "prayer"

If we are to love one another where is this "tough love" as some put it falls in. God is true love, not tough love.

Is tough love the way God loves us? or, is the love of God kind? Does God changes His love?

I agree, some go on it way too strong and seem to be personally offended almost to the point they're ready to attack if they hear something they don't agree with.

I take the time to research it and come to my own conclusion, as we're all supposed to do. I try not to spout out verses without any context that don't make sense without hearing the whole several surrounding verses or in some cases, book.

At any rate, yeah, it can get sort of brutal.

Its not about being right or wrong, or setting those in error straight, those IN the faith are commanded to contend earnestly for the faith, not just passively sit by while the multitudes butchers and twists the scriptures to fit into their pre conceived notions.

God is a God of great mercy, but Not to those who persist in unrepentant sin and disobedience.

The mercy of God

Rom 9:15 For He said to Moses, "Iwill have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom Iwill have compassion."
God is a God ad of mercy and compassion, He is the giver and takerof all life, and His mercy endures forever and ever. Now many teach that themercy of God can be abused to the extent that a vile sinner, who is unrepentantbefore God, can also receive His mercy. I believe he can, but does God give Hismercy and forgiveness to those still defiled, and living a lie?
I believe the gospel is clear on this, as to the many scriptureswarning all sinners to repent, Luk 13:3 I tell you, No. But unless yourepent, you will all likewise perish. Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way,and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to Jehovah, and Hewill have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
The mercy of God I believe is extended to all who come to a savingfaith, that includes real repentance and faith followed by deeds, proving wehave repented, have gone through a crisis of conviction and have cleansed andpurified our hearts, broken and ready to receive the holy spirit, havingcrucified our flesh with Christ, Galations 2-20, explains this well.
I also believe Gods mercy is extended to the whole world, 2Pe 3:9 The Lord isnot slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness, but is long-sufferingtoward us, not purposing that any should perish, but that all should come torepentance. He demands repentance, a working faith in love, and anobedient heart, that has been cleansed by the blood of Christ in repentance 2 Corin 7:10 For thegrief according to God works repentance to salvation, not to be regretted, butthe grief of the world works out death.
2Co 7:11 For behold this same thing (you being grieved according toGod); how much it worked out earnestness in you; but also defense; but alsoindignation; but also fear; but also desire; but also zeal; but also vengeance! In everything you approved yourselves to be clear in the matter.
God is merciful and longsuffering, and we are not to judgeanother's salvation, but we sure can judge their fruits, and conduct, ascompared to scripture, as long as our obedience is fulfilled. 2Co 10:6 and havingreadiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
I don't think God winks and overlooks sin in any way, shape orform, and the warnings are clear in His word, Psa 7:11 God judgesthe righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. The word is clear onwho will enter the kingdom of God, and this entrance comes from the mercy ofGod, on the truly repentant heart, not a perfect heart as most would accuse, but a heart made pure, through repentance, and following the truth inscriptures.
The sad thing is, most churches teach you get saved as a vilesinner, that Jesus took you place and is your obedience or substitute, all sinsare pre forgiven, and after you confess, and receive Jesus into your heart, youare declared saved, and righteous, not of your own accord, but that of theimputed righteousness of Christ.
So now Gods mercy declares a vile sinner pure, holy, and in Hisfavor, because God can grant mercy to whom He pleases, but this goes againstHis command for us to repent, stop our sinning against Him, seek His mercyafter we make a strong effort towards Him in reconciliation.
All throughout scripture God is calling all who can hear, torepent, avoid all appearances of evil, do not be deceived, follow and remain inthe spirit, give no provision to the flesh, be crucified with Christ, seek Hiskingdom and righteousness first, stand fast, be diligent, flee immorality, remain separate and unspotted from the world, love Him with all your heart, mind, strength and soul, love your neighbor, expose the unfruitful works ofdarkness, defend and contend to keep the gospel pure, love not the world andits vain attractions, be perfect in purity, sincerity, and love, avoidtemptation, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, you mustendure to the end, don't let your faith get shipwrecked, stop doing evil, learnto do good, rightly divide the word of God, deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, godly, and righteously in this present age, you reap whatyou sow, he who sins shall die, he who sins is of the devil, and many morewarnings coming from our most merciful God, who has made it perfectly clear inHis word, where His mercy will be granted.
I believe if a person comes to God in all humility, brokenness, and sincerity, Gods mercy will be abundantly poured out on them, but if hecomes with pride, still In vile sins of the flesh, loving the world more thanGod, full of self, expecting God to clean them up, an do His thing to make themstop sinning, then all bets are off, to me this is abusing the love, grace, andmercy of almighty God. Jas 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says, God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.
Jas 4:7 Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will fleefrom you.

We all know many sincere men and women past and present who liveda very holy and separated life, full of giving and compassion for all mankind, who did good works in helping the poor and sick. But they followed anothergospel, another religion, taught many false teachings, and led millions awayfrom the true gospel. Many will say as long as you did good works for God,showed your fellow man compassion and love, etc., it doesn't matter whatdoctrine you taught, followed or adhered to, as long as you loved Jesus andmankind, your works will burn up but the mercy of God will prevail, and youwill be saved.

Jesus applied tough love when He overthrew the tables of the moneychangers who turned His house into a den of thieves. He also reprimanded the Pharisees on several occasions, and even Peter when He said "Get thee behind me, Satan". So sometimes tough love is necessary when someone is terribly erring, like speaking injuriously of God and His word. There is a difference between tough love and insult though. The former is to help the individual while the latter is done out of spite. We should not abuse one another.

First, Tommy-go away

Second, I agree with what Starfield said. God does use tough love, but there is also a difference between tough love and insult. I posted a blog a couple days ago in regards to certain disagreements in the christian community that people can get downright mean with each other over, but when it all comes down to it, it's about the essentials of our faith. Jesus is the Christ, God's grace is absolute, Jesus is God, God is love. The majority of views of everything in between are nothing more than opinion and speculation that people feel are more important than they really are.

I think one of the issues is people forget that they are talking to some other PERSON. They shouldn't be so clouded by proving a point. It's true that Jesus did use tough love, but he also didn't chase people down when they disagreed with him. And he was standing in truth not in defense of Himself or God. Truth needs no defense. The truth has power. We don't have to infuse it with power by slamming people with it.
