A scientist decided to do an experiment on a frog once. He got it out of its cage, cut off one of its hind legs off and said, "jump frog, jump." Sure enough it jumped. The next day he cut its other hind leg off and said the same thang(huckabilly for thing), and somehow it jumped. The next day he cut one of its front legs off and said the same thang and somehow it jumped. Then the next day he cut its last leg off and said, "jump frog, jump." Nothing happened. He said again, "jump frog, jump." Nothing happened.

He runs and gets on the phone and calls one of his colleagues and says, "I made the most amazing discovery! I have discovered that when you cut all four legs off of a frog, they go deaf!!"
True story from Little Lynnie's youth. (I was 15, so not that little anymore.)

Mom and my brother Dan went east for my oldest brother's graduation. And left for a week. Now, Dan was the critter kid in the family. 200 box turtles in a pen, and since it was summertime, his four-foot caiman (kin to gators and crocs) was in the pen too. (They can't eat turtles, because of the shells.) BUT his two bullfrogs were in the same pen. The bullfrogs were about as big as leopard frogs get, so twice as wide as a caiman mouth when they're just sitting there. Little problem. They thin out when jumping.

And guess who was tasked with taking care of all those critters while Dan was gone. 200 box turtles require 1-2 pounds of meat per day, so either I had to catch that weight in minnows or pay for that meat from the grocery store. I can't catch minnows like Dan could. Thank God, they also eat vegetables and fruit too, because we often had leftovers to feed them, instead of making a compost pile. (Actually, they were our compost pile. lol) Added fun, I had to gather all the turtles at dinnertime, or the fast ones would have starved out the slow ones. Never, ever again. I killed one of his rabbits and one of his turtles in the one week he was gone...

BUT I caught the caiman as he was trying to down a bullfrog. All I saw of the bullfrog was the feet sticking out of the caiman's mouth. They were trying to hop out. (Frantic frog feet flailing fast.) I ran inside, grabbed a broom, (because I've been near-bit by that caiman before, and didn't want to feel the reality of it biting me, which for the record, is probably why one of the turtles died. I was nervous about the caiman every time I climbed into the pen), and chased that caiman around the pen for 15 minutes. I'm not sure why he upchucked the frog -- tired, bored, needed to breathe after running for 15 minutes, or the frog did something in his throat -- but he did. And I held him back while the frog hopped to the other side of the pen.

The frogs survived the summer with the caiman in the pen. I suspect that was because they learned what happens if they let their guard down. lol

This is how redneck and hillbilly I am. Mom used to fix these for myself and dad. I big ole kittle(its a kittle not kettle where live) of pig's feet, pig's ears and ham hocks! You talk about some fine eatin'!! I'd eat everything on the hog 'cept the rooter(snout), 'boys', brains(though I did try them once, and tail and intestines(chitlins).
One of the kids in our group home was black and missed soul food so bad he was almost heartbroken. So hubby made chitlins for everyone one night. I can't say they tasted bad, but can't say they tasted good. They had no taste, unless you count the hot sauce. I hate spicy, so no hot sauce. I always figured pig's feet was like chitlin - -- t'ain't nothing without the added spices. (Also don't like salt much -- keep it around to kill slugs only. lol) Last week, we went by the pig's feet in the grocery store and hubby almost drooled. Ends up he loves them, except can't eat them. (We can't eat pork anymore. Ruins our guts. And he has to watch his blood pressure.)

I've probably had all the parts of the pig but the squeal, but because we live near Pennsylvania Dutch country, (Amish), so we know scrapple! (Scrapple's okay, but if there is a choice between scrapple and bacon, always went for the bacon. Which probably explains why I can't eat pork anymore. Hubby loved scrapple more than bacon.)

Living in Phoenix, you probably speak more Spanish than English.

#Buildthatwall
Living in Phoenix, the Spanish speakers have lived there way before whites came to this country, wall or no wall.

We grew up bilingual, with English and Filipino at home and school, but do miss understanding idioms and expressions not commonly used here. Also learned a bit of two local dialects from a parent and my spouse i can understand and speak occasionally, but w/o practice. So long ago, but i remember we had Spanish in Prep school! then some units in college, but we hardly speak that except words that have long been part of filipino, like lamesa, wc has become one word in filipino, and many others. Some french electives in high school and college too, but inutilisé and quite forgotten=).

Shoot, that became a town in Texas.... of course, we mis-pronounce it... it's pronounced la-meesa in Texas..

LamesaCity in Texas
Lamesa is a city in and the county seat of Dawson County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,422 at the 2010 census, down from 9,952 at the 2000 census. Located south of Lubbock on the Llano Estacado, Lamesa was founded in 1903. Wikipedia
