Hi..just discovered CC from a website I visited yesterday. I've started reading the bible and to be honest most of the verses I read I don't understand them.
I need people to fellowship with and am hoping anyone could help me out with questions I don't understand.
Thanks.
I believe that to pray along with your readings will truly Help immensly, God wants us to understand His word and is pleased when we ask Him for understanding.

Gld to have another member, there are alot of great folks to talk to here, find the gentle ones to grow with, is a good peice of advice. May God bless your seeking in His word and also, if you first go to John chapter 3, verse 16. the rest will make alot more sense as you seek.

Welcome to Christian Chat, Maune. If you just start at the beginning of the Bible and read all the way through, you might find it easier to understand, unless that is what you already are doing. Don’t read too fast.
I appreciate your advice..Thank you dear

i dont suggest taking other mens words as scripture

or SOUND doctrine before you read the Word and can tell for yourself

but it really does help your hunger for the Word and terms and concepts

ok

paul wash (just a man, a preacher very heart felt has a lot right and some wrong but good for your heart)

kerrigan skelly (another man, mainly a street preacher helps with conviction of sin... again many things right but some things wrong)

kent hovind(less of a preacher more of an apologist.. he debates professors and it helps you see how silly the world can be)

chuck missler (another preacher... more things i disagree with but has an interesting way of thinkin and talks about some topics that really get you thinking)

after listening to people like these
you shouldnt take what they say as fact

but the message they bring can soften you to new information

and make you crave the word

also

im not trying to brag in anyway
im just a sappling

but i have read the bible
and i read it still every day

i may be of use, if you ever have a question feel free to hit me up
Alright then,I will add you to my friends and hopefully you can help me out

When I have a question that I would like to know the answer to I start by reading John and then the rest of the New Testament to the book of Revelation. (I do not read Revelation my first time through) It normally takes me about 2 weeks, give or take a few days, my first read. Then I will start with any of the other 3 gospels, Matthew, Mark or Luke, and read to Revelation, again not reading the book of Revelation. I again will do the same thing starting with one of the remaining 2 gospels and the then the fourth and last time through, starting with the one remaining gospel, will read Revelation to finish up. I have had lots of question and have read the New Testament hundreds of times and He has always lead me to the answers. I have always suggested this to people who are just beginning to read and study the scriptures.

May our Father in Heaven bless you on your journey.
That's a nice suggestion, I'll try your reading plan soon hope it works for me.
May God bless you too

“Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise”(Proverbs 15:31).

Pray for God’s guidance in finding the right person

“Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance” (Proverbs 1:5).

Develop an awareness of those around you

“The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray” (Proverbs 12:26).

A good counselor or mentor is like the cream rising to the top. They are marked for their wisdom and insight over matters that cause many people to fail in dealing with issues in a righteous manner. A wise man or woman stands out because of their calm demeanor in the midst of troubling times. It’s not that they are endowed with superior spirituality, but rather the tests of life and time have taught them to confidently put their trust in Christ’s sovereignty. “The king of Israel answered, “Tell him: ‘One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.’” (1 Kings 20:11).
The faithful followers of Jesus Christ will have battle scars on their spiritual armor. They know what it’s like to be in the darkest places spiritually and still move forward by the grace of God. against the world, the flesh, and the devil.

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1).

Great responsibility accompanies those who are the mentors in your life. Just as Paul was a spiritual father to Timothy, so your counselor may be the paternal or maternal influence in your life. It’s necessary for their spiritual growth to be aware of your need in their lives. They have to be ready to hear from the Holy Spirit and share God’s word liberally with you. It’s a position of honor that deserves respect because of the greater accountability.

A good person to find in mentoring with you has:

Knowledge: (Proverbs 24:4) A good mentor is knowledgeable about the word of God and well acquainted with sound teaching. These men and women stick to the solid truths of God’s word and resist trends of “new” teachings.

Wisdom: (Proverbs 10:14) A good mentor applies the knowledge of God’s word in their everyday interactions with family, friends, and strangers. Their lives are marked with the seasoning of careful reasoning and understanding.

Experience: (1 Timothy 3:6) A good mentor must have life experiences that have proven his or her perseverance in the faith. Resist following after the advice of a new convert as they may need more time to mature in the faith.

Discernment: (Philippians 1:10) A good mentor discerns what is good through the Scriptures and prayer. The Holy Spirit gives insight and direction through those who’ve submitted their lives fully to Christ.

Truthfulness: (Ephesians 4:15) A good mentor will speak the hard truth to you in love. They want you to live righteously and avoid the pitfalls of ignorance.

Compassion: (Colossians 3:12) A good mentor is marked by their agape love and compassion for God’s people. Their speech and actions towards all people reflects the love of Christ.

Integrity: (2 Corinthians 1:12) A good mentor strives to live a life of integrity even when the world belittles their stance for what is right. They refuse to bow down to complicity and/or make excuses to justify themselves.

Reputation: (Proverbs 22:1) A good mentor secures their reputation by making everyday choices that reflect the grace and mercy given to them by Christ. They make great efforts to reveal the influence of Jesus on their lives.

Sometimes it may take a while to find a good counselor worthy of honor. Yet the Lord knows just who you need at the right time. He will grant you direction as you draw close to Him in prayer and meditation. As the Lord grows you up through wise counsel, you will realize the position of honor in leading others as well. But first I must ask: Have you given your life in believing Jesus died and arose again for your sins to be paid on that Cross? Have you asked God into your heart?

Yes I have, I've been born again for some months now.Thank you for asking I perceive you could be of a great help to me in my Christian walk

The very first reading of the Bible can be daunting. It's a large book, and let's be honest...it's not exactly an easy read. Some parts are confusing, and they might not get clearer until much later as you read through much later books of the Bible.

What I did to read through the Bible the first time (took me about 9 months):

Find and print off a Bible Reading Plan. The one I used had me read some Old Testament, some New Testament, some Psalms and Proverbs, every day. Not much. Maybe 15-30 minutes worth of reading, and that was with using the built-in concordance in my Bible to check the cross-references.

I watched a LOT of sermons and talks on YouTube. Others have suggested some folks to look up, and I will agree with folks like Paul Washer, Chuck Missler. Listen to them, but don't hang on their every word. They are humans, and therefore flawed like everyone else.

I told myself that as I read I would come to believe one thing, and as I continued to read and learn, my beliefs might change or alter. I didn't expect to figure all of Christianity out right out of the gate. It's a journey. I'm still very, very young in my faith, and I am trying to untie a LOT of spiritual knots from my life and make sense of them in relation to what I have come to believe. I struggle with my faith on a daily basis, and I forgive myself for it because I know I am forgiven for it.

I refrained, and still try to stay away from discussions about certain topics. I'm too ignorant to be talking about or having an opinion about a lot of the topics that show up in the Bible Discussion Forums here on a regular basis. Read and understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ first. Understand why you like the rest of us needed a savior. Understand what The Lord asks of you and how you are to behave. Understand that the rules aren't restrictions upon your life but actually liberate you to live a life you've never imagined. Understand these things first. The rest can come later.

Hi Maune, welcome to CC!

Have you considered looking for a church in your area for one on one fellowship.

Growing and learning God's word and will for your life is a life-long journey. It's a marathon and not a sprint. I wanted it to be a sprint when I was first saved and learned pretty quickly that it takes time, prayer, study, growth etc.

But mostly I realized it's a relationship with God our Savior and Lord.

I wanted to ask and not assume, are you a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ? I tried reading the bible when I was an unbeliever and I couldn't understand a thing. But even then I believe God was drawing me towards Him so I could join His family.

Also, I would like to invite you to join God's family if you're not a believer yet. Do you know that Jesus, God's only begotten Son died on a cross so that we can have forgiveness for our sins, a relationship with Him and eternal life.

He was buried and rose again to newness of life and we will too. We will have eternal life in Him with no more sorrow, pain or suffering. Our sins separated us from God our Father and through Jesus sacrifice to atone for our sins, we become united to a right relationship with God.

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” Romans 10:8-11

John 3:1-17

Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

Yes I have joined a local church recently and I'm born again..Thanks for asking
I've sent you a request hope you add me

The chat portion of this site would be better for discussions about your confusion about what you are reading. These forums are infested by people who like to preach instead of teach, and they delight in telling you what you are wrong about. They only excel at fostering discord amongst believers. CC is NOT a welcoming place to new Christians. Heck, it's NOT a welcoming place to anyone. A person would have to believe some really silly things to be on the "right" side of arguments at this place.

If you have questions, go to the chat rooms.
whoa there, this IS a welcoming site so long as I'm here to welcome lol, seriously though you know as well as I do there are plenty of people that ARE WELCOMING,please don't put everyone under your,OPINION with such statements!
