First of all, I would like to say greetings and well wishes to all. As I was reading through the rules, I would like to ask a few questions to make sure this is an approperate forum for myself. To give a little background, i was a christian for 30some years. However, experience and life had dwindled my faith in not just the church but humanity overall.

Part of me still wishes it to be true; I guess that's why i countine my search for the truth; Whatever it may be. But my concern is asking questions. Can some who is trying to better understand todays christian be allowed to respecfully ask? Is there a limit on discussion?

It is not my aim to "convert" or "dismiss" what one believes. But I have seen the church change so drastically over the past years that i wish to understand more on this way of thinking.

Any thoughts or, if this is not an approperate forum, suggestions of other sites that may aid me would be appreciated.

Thx
-Gadg

It's fine to ask questions. Long as you're learning and not trying to sway others. So maybe watch the tone of your questions. If it sounds accusatory or worded in a way that sounds like you're trying to cause doubt or make people sway that may not look good on you.
Hope you find the answers you need and welcome to cc.

Limits on asking questions and seeking truth? There is no limit but u have to have a cohesive well thought out list of question that may help paint a big picture. Instead of trying to be a philosopher and puzzle yourself with questions that r not well organize and will not paint a big picture. The bible forum is 4 biblical questions. U can check out othe forums 2.

Thanks for the quick reply. But thats my concern. I rarely questioned anything as a child and rode that into my adulthood trust that god knew what he was doing.

Finally, i had hit a point and i started to ask questions. Next thing i knew i was accused if not trusting god and that i wasnt a true believer, ect. As i sought for someone, anyone, to talk too about these things, they either decoverted or avoided the questions all together. That is not my aim. I just looking for a forum that is strong in there faith but is also not going to dismiss me as well. Am i making any sense?

Questioning God and his motives is fine. It doesn't have to equate to rebellion, see the book of Job and Moses's stress while shepherding Israel.

The deeper questions and concerns should be conveyed to God directly, everything else can be fulfilled in discourse with others.

You may find some people like that, but i think for the most part people will not treat you that way. Though it may depend on what section you post in. Some sections are.... a little less than friendly. o.o
But... what is 'decoverted'?

And, sshhh... don't tell anyone, but i'm not a philosopher either. ( ;

Ugly, hehe. That is true. I guess Ill have to just test the waters and see if i pull back a bloody stump.

As for "deconvert" basically means that they began questioning their faith and dropped from christainity.

Welcome to CC, Gadget. I hope you have a blessed time here.

It is perfectly okay to ask questions. Just be mindful of which forum you post your questions in.. o_o

Welcome to CC! If we can't ask the difficult questions, how can we expect to learn and be able to wrestle with them and come out the other side for the better? Asking questions is necessary for growth, for clarity, for understanding. Bring on the questions but please be respectful.

Ah, in your original post you said 'decovert', so i wasn't sure if it was a typo or what haha.

Well, if you have trouble on the site with your questions feel free to message me and ask. I in no way claim to have all the answers. There are many people here with more training and education on various matters of defending their faith, but i can try if need be. Unless you turn out to be a nose picking troll. In that case shoo. hahaha.

I have only put my faith in one thing. The church, and especially humanity, will let you down time and time again....heck, I often let myself down! My faith is placed in the solid rock of the person of Jesus Christ. "On Christ the solid rock I stand ALL other ground is sinking sand...." As far as questions, it is one thing to doubt and do nothing about it....it is another to doubt and seek answers for those questions. Bible says, "You will seek me and find me WHEN you seek me with all your heart." And honest search for answers is a major part of that seeking process.

I am 25, I pretty much went through what you did. It led me into the occult, Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.) I regret that now after being apart of and witnessing some disturbing things. I am still not ye convinced of my faith in god, but I am gaining more faith all the time. I guess I still have some attachment to the occult and have not yet quite been fully able to let it go. I am trying my hardest though to gain my faith back in christ and ask for his forgiveness for what i have done.

Crommy, Well first let me say as I stand, currently in the same spot as you, that I think it was a wise decision to go in the direction you are and would encourage you to keep going. My own personal experience not withstanding, I still believe in the ultimate good. Maybe as you re-explore we can both lean on each other in our quest.

I agree with Ugly. it's not what you ask, its how you ask. If you are genuinly wanting to learn, people will help as much as they can only by there own experiences. Remember, asking questions here is good thing, but it can bounce back at you as some people can take things wrong, not only how you word things, but as you well know I'm sure that you cannot read emotions behind text or anything that is written. Welcome to cc. and I hope you find the answers to your questions. Matthew 7: 7.

Thank you Richard, Yes I am aware of the damage the faceless post can cause. I have learned to choose my words carefully. But even then, it's not a guarantee.
