@Magenta and @Cold Thanks for both sharing your life stories 🥰 It's so amazing and so encouraging
to read what the Lord has done and is still doing in your lives. God's love is amazing 🥰
You are ever so very much very welcome! One of the things I neglected to mention was that it had certainly
not been my idea to stop using substances to mask and dull my pain, but doing so did definitely help me
delve into and better understand my formative years and also the very unhealthy codependency prevalent
in the dynamics of many of my relationships. Not only that, but the search for meaning and purpose took on
a whole new dimension in recovery, becoming an adventurous driving force in my life that I realized many
others were engaged in also, others that were extremely helpful to me in lending a positive structure to
my daily and weekly routines whether they knew it or not. I start to forget some of the details if I don't
tell my story, so I am grateful for the opportunity to do so, especially if it helps another

Do you ever listen to praise and worship music/songs? There are so many very wonderful songs that speak of our faith and lift up the Lord. My favourite genre for this is modern praise and worship. There are lots of songs like that available; you can build a new playlist! I just now unsuccessfully tried to find some threads where I have listed many of my top picks; if you would like some recommendations, I can certainly provide some. I know you said you are a bit of a loner, but I would also encourage you to try to find a church home so that you have other like-minded folks to relate to and become involved with, and this too will help build up your new perspectives and purpose.
I have tried to listen to praise and worship songs in the past but never could really enjoy it. I mostly listened to various types of metal. I'm pretty sure if I tried to find some Christian music it would in the end lead to me going back to my old preferred music with lyrics I should be avoiding. I'm still internally debating whether or not I should be finding a church to try out.

There is praise and worship music available in that genre. Two members who could
recommend bands and songs to you are @posthuman and @Subhumanoidal
.:)

And I would encourage you to look for a church home, too! I tried
many over a few years before I found mine and regret none of it...

I looked a little bit into the Christian music forum on here but backed out after a few minutes. I would rather not start listening to Christian alternatives to my previous preferred music only because I feel like it would just lead me to think about the old stuff I enjoyed and then start listening to it again. I guess it's like a type of temptation in that I would rather avoid anything that reminds me of it.

Check out The Glorious Unseen. Particularly Tonight the Stars Speak.
The main writer is a former Christian metal musician turned worship leader.
It's not metal music, but it's also not the typical commercial stuff you hear.

Sounds like it would be interesting but I rather decided to give up all music. This way I don't ever have to worry about hearing a song that reminds me of an old favorite and get it stuck in my head until I listen to it and then more songs.

Hi there. Thanks for the welcome and the verses. I appreciate it. I'm actually trying to find a site to read the bible but for some reason the few I've found only let me search for verses and not just read it outright.

Ive been settled with this one for quite a while.
