Your not actually taking Matthew 24 literally are you. Have you heard of something called Hebraic symbolism? Most of the apocalyptic literature in the Bible was written in highly symbolic, figurative and hyperbolic language. It's how the ancient Hebrews liked to write.
I will go over the verses you quoted:
The passing away of Heaven and Earth was the passing away of the Temple. The Temple was seen as a microcosm of the heavenly realm or the universe. Heaven and Earth could also mean the Old Covenant. Both came to an end in 70 AD.
Matthew 24, 29: The Tribulation happened in 70 AD with the destruction of the Temple. The reference to the sun, moon and stars was Hebraic symbolism for the destruction of an empire or nation. In this case it was the destruction of Old Covenant Jerusalem. The sun, moon and stars could be a reference to the Temple which symbolised the the heavenly realm. The Temple was thought to be the dwelling place of God here on earth.
Matthew 24, 30. The sign of the Son of Man in the heavens goes back to the book of Daniel. The Son of Man in Daniel was prophecised to have the same authority as God and was to pass judgement on apostate Old Covenant Jerusalem which was to bring about the end of the Mosaic age (Old Covenant age). To "come on the clouds of heaven" means to come spiritually in judgement. In the Old Testament one nation (Assyrians) were used to pass judgement on the Egyptians who were persecuting God's covernental people, the Hebrews. But God did not physically appears on clouds. It was a spiritual presence. The Son of Man in 70 AD was spiritually present when passing judgement on Old Covenant Jews who were persecuting and killing the early Christians. The sound of a trumpet symbolises judgement. The elect were those 1st century Christians who persevered through the persecutions and the tribulations, had faith in the coming of the Lord, and managed to escape Jerusalem after they remembered what the Lord said about fleeing Jerusalem when the Roman armies approached. The elect, after having fleed Jerusalem went on to establish the Church after they were blessed by the Son of Man.
Matthew 24, 32: This was a parable about what the elect had to look for as the tribulation of 70 AD was approaching.
Matthew 24, 33 This is a warning to be ready for the tribulation of 70 AD.
Matthew 24, 34 This is perhaps the strongest verse that preterism is true. If Christ was crucified in approximately 30 AD, then one generation later (40 years in Hebrew tradition) we end up with 70 AD. The timing was perfect. How could Jesus have known this unless He had devine revelation from God.
Matthew 24, 35. Another verse that I love. Heaven and Earth was the Temple. Destroyed in 70 AD and the words of Christ are still with us today 2000 years later.
Matthew 24 ,36 Jesus is saying He did not know the exact timing of the end of the age (Old Covenant age) but only the Father knows.
Matthew 24, 37 The coming of the Son of Man was to be unexpected, like in the days of Noah.
Matthew 24, 38-39 People were going about their normal business as usual before the wicked were destroyed. In this case it was the Old Covenant Jews who were persecuting the Church that were about to be destroyed in 70 AD.
Matthew 24, 40-41 Some will be killed by the Roman sword and others will be left behind (no, this is NOT the rapture!!!).
Matthew 24, 42. Jesus is telling His elect to be on their guard and look for the signs of His parousia (spiritual presence).
Matthew 24, 43 Jesus symbolises the "thief" and the "master of the house" were the scribes, pharasees and the Sanhedrin in the Temple, which was about to be destroyed. He was going to take the Jewish establishment by surprise.
Matthew 24, 44 The elect were to be on their guard at all times. The Son of Man was coming in judgement against apostate, corrupt, and ungodly Old Covenant Jerusalem, who were going to kill the Saints and were about crucify the Messiah. The result was Jerusalem was demolished. The elect of Christ had faith, received blessings, obeyed Christ, and established the Christian church we have today.

So there you have it! Preterism in a nutshell. I can't go over the verses in Revelation as I am getting repetitive strain injury with all this typing. Preterism is a wonderful concept because it means the victory belongs to Christ and His kingdom had been established whereas you and millions of others are still waiting for something to happen after 2000 years.

I guess the book of Revelation is obsolete. Wonder why it was included in the bible?

How odd, most people look for fellowship and discussion with people who agree with them.

Why do you seek people who disagree with you?

If you want a fight, it's easy to pick one around here.
Have a look at the preterist interpretation of Matthew 24 below. Is this a dispensationalist forum with people waiting to fly away?

Loretta,
You say that nothing much has changed since Old Testament times. In 1st century Palestine there was widespread persecutions and martyrdoms of Christians everywhere. The origin of the persecutions came from the Sanhedrin in the Temple. The Temple was known as Heaven and Earth because it was thought to be the dwelling place of God here on earth. By 70 AD when it was destroyed, this wasn't just any old temple that destroyed. The Temple meant the world for Old Covenant Jerusalem and it felt like the end of their world. It was the end of the Mosaic age (laws of Moses) and it was the end of the Levitical priesthood. With no more Preisthood there could be no more animal sacrifices. It was the end of the Sadducees as well as the entire Old Covenant way of life. The Jews were then scattered amongst the gentile nations. With the Sanhedrin gone, the persecutions from the Old Covenant Jews came to an end. Jesus had become the new high priest and His death was the ultimate sacrifice. The new Temple had become a living Temple with Jesus at the cornerstone of the new Temple. Now if you were a Christian living in 1st century Palestine after 70 AD, you would not be saying nothing has changed about the world. Everything had changed. Even the Covernent with God had changed (although no one knows when the N.T. was completed). You have to read the New Testament and relate to what 1st century Christians were going through at the time, especially with the persecutions, the martyrdoms, the end of the Temple system, the kingdom of heaven arriving to all gentile nations, the end of the Old and the start of the New Covernent, the consummation of the Church etc. So within that 1st century generation Jesus and his disciples changed the world forever.
Now as far as what does all this mean for the 21st century. Sorry but I haven't got all the answers. You need to speak to a preterist Bible scholar.
Regards, Andy.
Christians are still being persecuted around the world, its just a really confusing concept thats all

End of the world is a mistranslation from the KJV. It should say end of the aeon (age).

The new heaven & earth hasn't been created yet you believe all of scripture has been fulfilled. I mean you have the right to believe what you want but it sounds like false doctrine to me.

preterisim is a deception promoted by the catholic church who wanted to deceive Christians into thinking their rule with the roman emperor was the fulfillment of Revelation.. That they where the saints ruling to earth with Jesus spiritually for 1000 years of course as soon as the 1000ad came around they had to change that 1000 literal years into a symbolic interpretation that just meant a really long time.. There are a lot of Cults who have declared that the end is night and when the end did not come they have to twist scriptures with their symbolic interpretations to make things fit.. The literal return of Jesus becomes an invisible, Spiritual return of Christ. They clutch at straws seeing the evil world around then and trying to make it fit with the scriptures saying that satan is now bound in the bottomless pit and unable to work in this world.. Ha ha ha ha
I agree the two methods preterism and futurism are methods which was introduced by two jesuits to counteract the reformation. Preterism places the antichrist in the far distance past and futurism places the antichrist in the future. This was done to get the attention of the Catholic church or papacy as the antichrist. The biblical manner to interpret bible prophecy is by the historical method. History and prophecy events goes hand in hand. No timeframe gaps.

With the historical method. We use the day/year principle in interpreting the 70 weeks of the Jews and 2300 day prophecy of the cleansing the heavenly sanctuary. And what is amazing with using the day/principle. The bible accurately predict the year Jesus was baptised and the year of His crucifixion. Proofing the divinity of Christ. Many of the Jews do not want to study this prophecy because that proofs the messiah has already came for His people sin.

We have a mixture of folks. I don't believe in the "rapture" but don't find it of much interest to debate.

Anyway welcome to the forums. Hope you can find edification and fellowship, if that is what you seek.

I agree. It seems a little silly to attempt to debate something I don't think even exists.
