I've always had an interest in religion but have recently started reading the bible more intensly and really seeking the truth

There are so many denominations, i have read about many of them. Is there one true denomination? Catholisism is very old but i struggle to understand how some of the traditions came to be, and others like jehovas is fairly recent compared to others.

Well every denomination has some flaw, there really isn't the perfect one. Catholicism is not really to the truth, they believe things outside of where scripture speaks. Protestantism came about from the split from the Catholic church for a lot of reasons, one of which I already mentioned.

Hello nick85. Welcome to CC. Jesus said that he is the way, the truth and the life. So its good that you are searching. But look to your heart. religions are set up by men, to confuse and to twist the truth to the world and that works will get you to heaven and so on. Its faith that will save you. faith in the truth. Open your heart to prayer, and seek Jesus to come into your life. and believe that God had sent Jesus to die on the cross to pay for your sins. God loves spiritual fruits not religious nuts. The truth is there in Jesus. just believe in him. and read your bible. you will find truth there.

God bless. I pray that God will show you a great path for you to walk. and that your journey with Jesus will be a blessed one. In Matthew 7: 7. says: " Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. "

In John 14: 6. Says: Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

You're welcome here. I hope we can help you in your search. It does get tricky with denominations. Definitely looking at scripture closely first like you're doing and focusing on God first is a good first step. Visiting churches, talking to the people, looking at what they do is a good idea for finding a network of fellow people searching the truth too. At the end of the day though, if you keep seeking God and his will all of the rest will come.
