26 Then God said, “[ai]Let Us make mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness; and [aj]let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the livestock and over all the earth, and over every crawling thing that crawls on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that [ak]moves on the earth.” 29 Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the [al]surface of all the earth, and every tree [am]which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; 30 and to every animal of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to everything that [an]moves on the earth [ao]which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so. 31 And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

This is the sixth day of creation. Mankind was created, and instructed to be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. Mankind was to rule over all creatures, and the fish of the sea.
Since most Christians insist, and Genesis 1 indicates it, that these days of creation were true 24 hour periods (evening and morning)... then, where, in this narrative of the creation of mankind does the creation of Adam, then later, Eve, fit in? When, in this 24 hour period, did they have time to be instructed about the tree of knowledge, and for Eve to be tempted and give in, and Adam to do the same, then manufacture clothing out of leaves, and then have a conversation with God and be driven out of the garden? And, where, in the garden, were the seas that "mankind" was instructed to rule over?
How was Adam going to be fruitful and multiply during the time before God saw that he needed a helper, and caused him to go into a deep sleep so that Eve could be created?
The more I read this, the more convinced I am that "mankind" was created on the sixth day, male and female, and were set loose in the world to populate it.
Adam was created later (perhaps MUCH later) to be the first "son of God", and that is the story that Genesis 2 tells us.

In any case, this is not a salvation issue at all... but it certainly would help explain a LOT of things that un-believers tend to throw at us to "dis-prove" the word of God.

Exactly!!!
The mainstream explanation we have now, leaves the unbelievers mind to go places, many Christians had not thought it would go. You're free to believe whatever you choose, but my explanation takes into account the holiness of God, where the other one doesn't.

You've got it all wrong. Genesis is not written in a strictly chronological order. Gen. 1 is like all the genealogies that were interpolated in between chapters. There's a genealogy in Gen. 5, and other genealogies in Gen. 10 and Gen. 11; in 10:25 it says Eber begot two sons, one named Peleg, for "in his days the earth was divided", that was referring to the dispersion of the nations from the tower of babel in Gen. 11. That means Gen. 11 goes back to the period of 10:25. Same as Gen 2, it goes back to Day 6 of the creation week.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 are not separate accounts as you assume. Gen 2 just goes in details of Day 6 as I explained. "Be fruitful and multiply" and "subdue the whole earth" are the general design for mankind. God created Adam and put him in the Garden as a test run or a boot camp training before he was able to rule the whole world. Eden was not the world, it was a tiny speck with a controlled environment. Adam was not just the first man, he was the prototype for Jesus, the first son of God - not my word, but in Luke's genealogy. Jesus took his time in learning and training until he started his ministry at age 30, so was Adam taking his time to grow up and get familiar with the environment. When he was in the garden, it was like living with mom and dad as a kid; but once you're out, you're on your own. Mom and dad can still love you, giving you advice and guidance, but they can't do everything for you any more, you have to take responsibilities.

You've got it all wrong.
Ok.... thanks for straightening me right out....
Gen 1 and Gen 2 are not separate accounts as you assume.
Again... thanks. So, you posit that the whole Adam and Eve story, from creation from the dust, to fall from grace and expulsion from the garden ALL happened in a 24 hour period? And that after God expelled them from the garden, he blithely told them to go forth, be fruitful and multiply?

Don't get me wrong, yours is the same explanation I've been taught my whole life, for 12 years of private Christian school education to my present age.... and we're about to have our 50th High School reunion....
This idea of mine is not something I just "heard", it is something that I have been wondering about for some time. I have read, and re-read the first books of Genesis, and the idea of Genesis 2 being the beginning of the account of the "family of Adam" makes more sense than just blindly saying that "Genesis 1 and 2 are talking about the same thing... don't question it, just accept it!"

What is it about my thoughts on it "bothers" you? Why do you so adamantly say "YOU'RE WRONG!" ?
Your response sort of sounds like the attitude of "don't confuse me with any facts, my mind is made up"

Gen 1 is more like the grand design of the universe, whereas the history of mankind starts from Gen 2. God could’ve “launched” everything on one day, but he divided it into six days on his schedule and rested on the 7th, that sets a pattern. “The end was declared from the beginning,” that’s written in Isaiah, not a theory I made up in my mind.

Brother....glad you can see what I see. I have often wondered why the story went in the direction it did. For when you read it as being two creation stories, it begins to makes sense, and the evidence which supports it, just starts piling up.

Just a little more for you to ponder...
I believe the story went off the rails in (Genesis 6:4), with folks trying to find an explanation for the giants.
I love a good Giant story, but the giants are only mentioned to give the reader a timeframe when the flood occurred. Understanding who these giants were, unlocked the story of creation for me.
What Giants are being referenced?
They had to be animals.
How do we know this?
To be around after the flood, they had to have been in the Ark with Noah and his family.
Was Noah a giant?
No!
Were any of his family members?
No!
Conclusion....
The giants mentioned...had to be Animals.

How does this information give us the time when God flooded the earth?
Well....What giant animals were around after the flood?

The Giraffe, the Elephant, the Hippo, and the Rhino.
What giant animals were around during the day of Noah, but are not around today?
The Dinosaurs!!
So how does this information tell us when did the flood took place?
It took place at a time when the Dinosaurs walked the earth. So...the year they went extinct was when the flood took place.....The Very Year!!

Don't you think dinosaurs were too large to fit into the Ark? That was the first ship in human history, specific design was given by God. This is just another attempt to stuff the Bible into the EVILutionary world view. Bible is offensive to a lot of people, and Gen 1 is one of the biggest stumbling blocks. This issue with giants is like some arrogant intellectuals who loved the moral principles taught by Jesus in the gospels, but they scratched off all the miracles.

I believe you missed my point.....which was....The dinosaurs weren't on the Ark. The only Giants who survived after the flood were on the Ark with Noah. These Giants which still exist today are the Giraffe..Elephant...Hippo..Rino.

No, those giants were Nephilim, the Amalekites the spies saw in the Land of Canaan. Either it passed down through Ham's wife or the fallen angels nio-engineered human genome again, the result was the same. One sacred mission for Israel was to exterminate those monsters, and their land was given to Israel as their reward.

And How do you come by this information?
Did you use the same source you used for the creation story?
These Nephilliam...were they on the Ark?

In Numbers 13 Nephillim is the exact word for giant, it's specifically marked in the footnote of my bible. As I said, either the giant genes were passed down through Ham's wife or the fallen angels nio-engineered human genome, these giants still existed. In essence, that's transhumanism in ancient times.

Oh...You're using a newer version of the Bible. Maybe you should look at a Torah, a Torah that is at least 100 years old. It is after all, the earliest know translation of that part of the Christian bible.
You may not know this, but for thousands of years the Torah used the Hebrew word Giant in (Genesis 6:4), and in just the last 50-75 years it was replaced with this word, Nephilim.

I believe they did this to make the Torah match their teachings, instead of making their teachings match the Torah. Teachers tend to do this, when their teachings come into question. The Jews who were taught to fear God, wouldn't have done this back in the day. But I guess in the last 50-100 years..like me, they do question the teaching..so like the Christian Bible...they had to change the word in the Torah.

In much the same way, many Christians use whatever Bible translation which best matches their beliefs. Why do you think new versions keep popping up? It's not to make them easier to read, its to make the Bible say what they want it to say. In a hundred more years we will have about 5-10 more bible translations.

I believe it is because living things need light to survive??

Any thoughts appreciated!
Light can also mean this...

Psalms 119:105 נ (NUN).
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

The very act of God speaking was light.

If you really want to get deep into this, I would like to add that the order of Creation had everything to do with creating the Three Heavens in proper order...

Day 1 - God created Heaven #1.
Day 2 - God created Heaven #2.
Day 3 - God created Heaven #3.

It is very logical and beautiful.
