On Pain
Kahlil Gibran

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart
may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles
of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;
And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you
have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.
And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.

Hello Natania, hugs to you this fine day of the Lord! I have been thinking about you lots, and all the things we have shared, the sorrow and pain of loss and grief... your hope for a better future is truly inspiring! You have already overcome so much with great perseverance and strength of will, and a heart to be a better person. I hope your side is feeling better... did you go for volleyball tryouts yet? I hope you make the team!

You attitude of having experienced certain things for a specific purpose, and your acknowledgement that some have it so much worse reminds me so much of the poem Desiderata. Have you ever heard it?

  • Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
    and remember what peace there may be in silence.
    As far as possible without surrender
    be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even the dull and the ignorant;
    they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
    they are vexations to the spirit.
    If you compare yourself with others,
    you may become vain and bitter;
    for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
    Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
    it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
    Exercise caution in your business affairs;
    for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
    many persons strive for high ideals;
    and everywhere life is full of heroism.

    Be yourself.
    Especially, do not feign affection.
    Neither be cynical about love;
    for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
    it is as perennial as the grass.

    Take kindly the counsel of the years,
    gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
    Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
    But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
    Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
    Beyond a wholesome discipline,
    be gentle with yourself.

    You are a child of the universe,
    no less than the trees and the stars;
    you have a right to be here.
    And whether or not it is clear to you,
    no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

    Therefore be at peace with God,
    whatever you conceive Him to be,
    and whatever your labors and aspirations,
    in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

    With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
    it is still a beautiful world.
    Be cheerful.
    Strive to be happy.

Here is another one by Kahlil Gibran :D

On Joy and Sorrow
Kahlil Gibran

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find
it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see
that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits, alone with you at your
board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver,
needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.

I hope you got home okay last night and that everything was okay :)

I have slept most of today :p

Have you watched much anime? This is the one that started it all for my daughter

Everyone deserves to hear the Desiderata spoken as it was when it was on the Top 10 when I was a kid.

You are welcome! My daughter and I watched a LOT of anime together many years ago, she starting with Sailor Moon and we starting with InuYasha. InuYasha was really long (seven seasons with a minimum of 20 episodes per season... I just checked and there are about 27 episodes per season for the first few seasons)! Some anime is pretty weird but some of it is just excellently told stories with well developed characters and interesting plot lines. There is often some element of the supernatural involved, so the stories will follow the fight-against-evil arc that is so prevalent in many stories.

We tried a few times watching different shows dubbed with English voices instead of subtitled, but we always preferred to hear the original voices in Japanese, which were much more passionate than the English speaking subs. That was also how my daughter helped to teach herself Japanese. She really applied herself to studying it over a period of years before she went to college for that one year to study the language officially. I can say good morning and how are you, or, are you okay (haha). But I really did enjoy many of the shows, especially Hikaru No Go, 12 Kingdoms, Princess Tutu, InuYasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Nana, Cardcaptor Sakura, Death Note, and so many others I can hardly remember them all!

I hope you are taking good care of yourself with all your lung problems and cancer. My closest sister has had a double mastectomy (two different operations) recently and has had to totally overhaul her diet. Not that she was eating bad before, but she has basically been told to restrict herself to only fresh unprocessed foods. The hardest thing for her to give up was cheez whiz. LOL

I also wonder what kind of support groups if any, that you attend. Have you ever gone to an Al-A Teen meeting?
Alateen—for teens (<~ that is a link :D) I would also encourage you to not give up completely on seeing some kind of councellor or therapist. But we are always here for you, too. Please feel free to write to me privately if ever you feel the need to. :)

That is lovely! Very much like some of the art from the sixties :D

I took your image into an editing program, reoriented it, cropped it,
enlarged it, colour/contrast adjusted it, and added a small border :D

Aw im sorry about your sister!!

Nope I do not or have not gone to any support groups. My pastor keeps asking if I want to join some at church but I decline. No, i have not ever gone to an Al-A teen meeting.
I hate talking to therapists. I still see one but I don't talk to her.
Thank you Magenta :)

Thank you for the music :D The nice thing about a link is it takes you to youtube where a whole bunch of songs play after the one that was linked to, and I had a very nice afternoon nap while all that lovely music played :)

I am glad to hear you are looking after your health needs. It is quite a discipline to eat properly. I don't always do so well with it myself :p I do like to eat whole foods and organically, with no GMOs, and that can be expensive, but I think it is worth it, not just for me, but for the health of the Earth as a whole. :) The world is toxic on so many levels...

I just got off the phone with my daughter :) I usually see her on Saturdays, but she had a cat surgery today at the vet hospital where she works that kept her later than usual (she works half a day on Saturdays), plus I am still sick and not really in any shape to be going anywhere. I don't feel as bad as I did but I am getting a bit more congested. There was one other anime show I was trying to remember the name of last night, and I asked her about it; it was called Full Moon Sagashite. Not Full Moon haha. We did see that one too but I would not recommend it :D

I hope you are well today, feeling better :)

Yes :)
Do you have YouTube music?
It's an app I highly recommend it.

Oh I do not have a problem with healthy eating. Especially cuz I'm Vegetarian. I am one of those obsessed with healthy eating.
The only problem I have with eating is lack of eating.
But yeah we grow our vegetables and fruit.

Aw im glad you got to talk with her!!!!!!
I really do hope you feel better!!!
I could not be a vet. I love animals dearly but I would just break down even seeing them sick. Yeah... I couldn't do it...

I am okay. I'm worried about someone. It's wierd because I barely know this person but I hurt for them because I know how they feel...
I still have to pack for tryouts...

My volleyball coach is moving to Cali...
That's gonna be hard cuz she is like the team's mom. I've gone to her for years when my father hurt me or I had something bothering me...
She always let me in her home if my father would kick me out and she would always hug me and pray...
Ugh I don't want her to leave
