I will prat for your boy and for you to have wisdom in his care.
My granddaughter had a bad cough for 9 weeks, we took her to the
doctors 3 times. ( Got little help or advice)
My sister told us to put sliced onion on a plate in her room at night.
( you have to through it away after one night. )
We did this and she stopped coughing on the second day.
I tried it with my husband when he got congested and it worked for him too.
It is worth a try...

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.
The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and placed it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the virus, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

and whom You love dearly.
I ask that You touch him, and make him well.
Please heal this chest congestion, and if it be Your will,
give doctors wisdom as to what is causing it, and how to make it well.
May this all be to Your own great glory,
and just because You love him, and his mum, so very much.
I ask that you place peace in the heart of loveme1 to know You
are hearing our prayers, and that You always do what is best for us,
and I thank You so very much.

loveme1, we have three children who are affected by asthma,
and one who doesn't normally have a probkem with is, but when she gets a headcold
she also tends to get a sinus infection.
The pediatrician diagnosed her with 'bronchospams' when she was little,
and have her an inhaler (Ventolin, for asthma) to use when she couldn't stop coughing.
She only had to use it for a day or two, and it r-e-a-l-l-y helped!
I don't know if your little one is having that trouble, but thought it worth a mention.
Caffeine is a natural vasoconstrictor (which is what asthma meds do) and often if our 27 yo daughter
starts having an asthma attack, a strong cup of coffee fixes her right up.
(not that we want our little ones to drink coffee, normally...lol)
Just some thoughts from our experience.
My heart goes out to you!
It's just so sad to see them suffer.
