Maybe find a boy scout to build you ramps as their eagle scout project?

Keeping you in prayers.
I know enough Philadelphians in wheelchairs to know Philly's regulations for ramps. Our sidewalk/front yard (same thing) isn't wide enough. Need six feet of sidewalk and we only have four feet.

But, update time. Because that covering concealed the actual bedsore, no one knew how deep the sore went. The choices ranged from just surface level (Stage I) to it dug right into the bone. (Stage IV.) We've known it's no Stage I, but thought it was a Stage III. Wrong again. Stage IV -- right into the bone, which means any infection would spread quickly through his body because it would start at bone marrow level. He's on antibiotics for six weeks now, (No, that doesn't mean rehab is out for all six weeks, but it sounds like it's out until his bone recovers.)

If John were a baseball batter, he's averaging .999 on hits. If it can go wrong, it has gone wrong to the nth degree, except for the one that counts the most -- HE LIVES!

Before I leave, I asks him if he needs anything. Today he said, "Pray for me." (He knows many are.)

I have asked for many specific prayers along the line. I don't know if anyone's counting, but God has not given me a single one as asked. He's doing this his way and it keeps working out, but not one has he answered the way I expected. (And I really didn't think John would live through that first night, so even back then I asked for something and didn't get it -- so it doesn't mean God hasn't made me happy when I didn't get what I prayed. lol) I don't expect this anymore, but still, can we pray he gets no infections this time? I remember pneumonia, kidneys shut down, an infection no one ever could name, and C-diff. Not again!

Is he in an air fluidized bed? Can he change positions?

He needs to somehow take pressure off the bed sore so it can heal.

I heard the air bed helps, but with the whole wheelchair thing....well it can't hurt to ask.

Will pray that God surrounds you with people who have the heart to help, the wisdom to know how to help, and the means to do it.

With a stage 4 bed sore, He already has an infection but will pray that the antibiotics help his body fight it off and his body build new healthy tissue.

His bed reminds me of a Thanksgiving Day parade float. It is forever rising and lowering on air. lol

And yes, he needs to get off the wound, but he doesn't have the strength. He has gained enough strength to hold himself up on his right side for three minutes while the staff put wedges and pillows under him, but then his hips also hurt like crazy, so laying in any position, but the one position that hurts the wound more (flat on his back) hurts.

He keeps saying a donut pillow is useless, but I have no idea where he got that idea. The one we have at home is useless only because it's 25 years old, so flattened out. I hope to get him a donut pillow tomorrow. (I'm 95% sure our local drug store would have one.) But then it has to get in the exact right spot underneath him, and once it lands there, then he can't move.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I don't understand that. How can he have an infection when he's been on antibiotics for roughly 10 out of 13 weeks? (Ah, man! I think tomorrow marks his 14th week.) And the other half of my brain is saying, how could he not have an infection with a wound so deep it hit bone? But what infection?

Was reading up on it more and a medical site said that the donut pillow might not help but cause complications it it restricts blood flow to the area. That bedsores are caused by blood not getting to those tissues and them dying.

I am glad they have him in one of those air beds. Will continue to pray.

They were until he went to this wing of the hospital. Since then, it's been iffy. (Nonexistent for days on end, and then once or twice a day, maybe.) Worse yet, he's awake now, any position but the worst possible position hurts terribly, (his hips -- bad enough to cause him to cry), so even when they change his position, he tends to revert within an hour.

Enough is enough. Prayers that me being there during rounds actually gets doctors and nurses eager to do something for John. They have more excuses than Carter has Liver Pills.

Go to the top (head of unit etc) then go to the top of the top (God).

Lord we prayer that you will cause everything to fall into place for John and Lynn.
Whatever the hold ups are in practical matters Lord we prayer these will be
torn down and the situation will move forward quickly.
Whatever needs to be dealt with medically, Lord heal John, we know medicine is
an aid, but Lord you know us, you knit us together in the womb. You know our
minds and bodies.
Where there are any hindrances I pray these will be revealed and that you will
give wisdom to both John and lynn in knowing what to say and what not to say.
Show them your love, help ,them through this battle Lord. Thank you
for all you have done and are doing in this situation.
We pray for victory for Lord you are our strength, the lifter of our head.

Got answers. They weren't my favorite answers, (chief of which would be, "Sure, John's in great health. He can go home today." lol), but they were real answers.

The strategically placed bedsores (on his tush) will require more work fixing, which will cause more pain sitting/lying, so it will slow down his ability with physical therapy, which means he will sit slowly, which means he won't eat until he sits, so this is going to take a while. (Personally, I think the "he can't eat until he sits" part is suspect, but the one making that order is also the only one who can make that decision, and John stopped being interested in eating or drinking a few weeks ago, so it bothers me more than him.)

And, I found out that "700" is the dividing line between not enough red blood cells, and just enough, so they think those little abnormal blood vessels in his GI tract are oozing. The medical words used were something-another anemia. Anemia has to do with too little iron, but, yes, they're giving him iron too.

This took me a mere four hours to learn, but I was glad to see John exercising his arms in ways he couldn't just like week, and was thrilled when he was willing to file his fingernails after I cut them. (He lost all dexterity in his hands, so that's big.)

Now, all I have to do is recover from way-too-much-time-sitting-so-ouch-my-ribs-are-sore, but it's worth it. Hope has returned, even if I'm disappointed when I do the math and realize it will probably be next fall before he finally gets home.

Thank you, Lord. I was very disheartened for a good five days there.

Father, in Jesus' name I lift my prayers of healing for John and Lynn to you, Lord, please join my prayers with the others here, Lord, we unite our hearts around your throne of grace, asking for your grace and mercy, and for a miracle from the healing touch of your hand, Jesus, our Savior and Healer.

Please give the doctors and staff wisdom and compassion to help John be comforted, though we're really asking for You to make him pain-free by a miracle, Lord, we believe in You and Your awesome power of love to heal.

Please bless Lynn also, Lord, with peace and strength, and please put the proper people in her life that will help ease her burden. We ask and thank you, Father, in Jesus wonderful name. Amen.

Lynn, have you considered a portable cd player for playing scripture? I have the whole bible all on one cd, (dvd, but can be used either way) read by a guy named Scourby, he has a very soothing, clear voice, and sometimes just hearing scripture being read can have a healing effect.
I have extra copies and can hook you up with a player if you need one, you can pm me, and I'd be happy to send them to you right away if you like. Anything we can do to help. May our Lord hold you both close, and keep you encouraged to keep your eyes upon Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. God bless.

Thanks for the offer, but I just bought Amazon.com : Daily Meditation 1 ESV Dramatized Audio Bible Player - English Standard Version Electronic Bible : MP3 Players & Accessories yesterday.

I think John will be annoyed when I give it to him. He hates when I "waste money" on him, but he really needs God's Word. Since we've been married, he broke his back -- not the type of break that paralyzes -- and gone through chemo, yet I've never seen him this depressed and angry before, and I've seen him be both. In my thinking, this isn't wasted money. He needs this the most. Even if someone steals it, (his biggest fear with hospitals), he gets, (until/if that happens), to listen to his favorite book. AND, he knows how it ends. lol

And that device is being returned tomorrow. (The day Amazon said it would come.) It said nothing about needing to push that many buttons to hear one mere chapter. Nor did it say you have to read the codes for each chapter in a booklet to know which buttons to push. The whole purpose for it was because John can't turn a page, once more that many buttons.

But, I'm still not taking the offer for the CD, although I truly appreciated it. Unfortunately, if John can't push buttons, he can't work a CD player either.

(If anyone is into inventing something, this would be a good idea -- a Bible to listen to for people with disabilities.)

Just come across these verses, I've not noticed them before,
hoping they will give you some encouragement.
Bless you Lynn

Psalm 41:1-3 NLT
[1] Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The LORD rescues them
when they are in trouble. [2] The LORD protects them and keeps them alive.
He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies.
[3] The LORD nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.

Psalm 41:1-3 NKJV
[1] Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
[2] The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth;
You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. [3] The LORD will strengthen him
on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.
