I'm a new member here who has suffered a horrible anxiety disorder for over 20 years...was always afraid to ask for help even though I've prayed so long for mercy and God to help me find a way to cope with it.
Yesterday something made me take the day off from work and I found a Christian therapist ( I believe God directed Me to her) ...I called her and now I have an appointment for May,17th. :)

It was almost as if God was just waiting for me to do my part and he would begin to bless me and start me on a journey of healing. And most importantly please pray for this therapist that God will work through her.

Its been tough for me lately at my job because it seems it's getting more stressful and I need to hold it together until that day...I know that God is using this as a test...I pray for his protection to be all around me....bottom to top.

Thank you...and bless you all this day or night. :)

I have just prayed for you brother, but I have a question or two because health is a passion of mine and I'm a curious sort. What is the rest of your health like? Any chance you started medication for cholesterol?

Thanks brother! I do not take any medication at this moment but years ago a doctor put me on Zoloft..which made me feel very strange and " out of myself"...so I prayed about it and stopped taking it. My health is good but I've had to cut back the soft drinks and caffeine...I believe these caused my anxiety to be worse ! Love to you and Canada! I love Canadians! lol :)

The reason I asked is because many hormones, specifically cortisol in this case need cholesterol for your body to produce them. Your adrenals pump out cortisol to assist you to handle stress. If your adrenals aren't functioning properly or there is too much stress in your life then you may suffer adrenal fatigue. This causes the bodies reaction to every stressful situation to release adrenaline. In a fight or flight situation this energy will save your life. If you aren't running from a bear or fighting a shark then it might manifest as a panic attack. Caffeine does tax the adrenals, so cutting back is a great idea.

It's very possible this is in fact the situation for me...and I am interested to study this further now that you have mentioned it.
There used to be relaxing and exciting things in my life that I enjoyed doing. I never thought now they would cause me to be anxious for example crowded movie theaters and and resturaunts....I've had to get up many times and go outside to calm down while causing my family and friends to not understand and worry about me...it's a horrible and embarrassing feeling.
My cousin wanted me to go with him and his wife the other day and I had to turn him down because of my fear that I would have a panic attack while on the way to their house..I know God never meant anyone to have these anxieties happen when they are not supposed to.And if I'm not having anxiety I sink into depression....prayer and reading my Bible is all that really comforts me. Thanks for the great information and ideas! :)

I feel for you brother. I will pray for you! I can relate personally as i also deal poorly with anxiety that potentially leads to panic attacks.

I was facing high anxiety today for my yearly physical because last year my anxiety put me into a mind panic and my body shut down making me pass out. Hit my head on the floor and was sent to the hospital.

So i was very anxious today thinking about last year. But this year leaned hard into God and made sure everyone knew my problem and everyone took extra care of me. Making me feel calm and i reminded myself to focus on something to bring my attention away from the mind.

God helped me today calm the storm

You are doing the right thing getting professional help. I did for a month that helped me understood i wasnt crazy, dying, or weak. Thats the first step in fighting this, is to first understood the why behind it.

I prayed for you brother....God never meant for his children to have anxiety where it's not needed. He will comfort you and take every step with you.

Remember this faithful woman?

Luke 9:20 - And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

I believe that God didn't want me to just settle for any help...I sought out someone ( he had her lined up for the task) who had a Christian's approach to helping people with these and many other issues. I felt like all I needed to do was take that first step of faith and forget the worries of embarrassment...that is what kept me from trying for so long..I was telling myself I could cope. I'm realizing now I can't do it on my own...I need the power of Jesus..I surrender myself to his care.

God bless you brother.

I'm praying for you, that God will heal you and remove this anxiety from you, that He will cover you in His love and shelter you under His wings. (Psalm 91).
I know what anxiety feels like, how really awful it can feel, but there is hope and healing in Jesus. I can tell you that piece by piece He's brought healing and more peace into my heart.
That's great that you've found someone to talk to.
Here are couple of books that have helped me:
"Victory Over the Darkness," by Neil Anderson.
and "Conquering Fear," by Roger Frye.
God bless you!

As bad as you are you will likely need to go on meds. Ideally, while on meds you will receive counseling to find the root cause and work through the issues. Eventually, if all goes well, you will be able to wean off of the meds.
I suffered anxiety attacks for a while and still get minor anxiety from time to time. I've so dated two other women with anxiety, so I'm experienced. Hope knowing what to expect ahead if time makes it easier.

What you say is true...was wondering about this today if Meds might be used maybe short term.
I have been dating a woman from Albania who lives here in the states for almost 4 years ( some say that's too long) and we are talking about visiting her country Albania to meet her parents in the near future...so this has been a great worry for me lately but I pray that this is God's way of getting me prepared..I believe I have met the Christian woman that God meant for me. She has really been one of my biggest supporters and surprisingly understands and loves me the way I am.

I have said a prayer for God to remove the source of anxiety. I suffer from this too, not everyday because it comes and goes, but when it comes it is hard to focus on the task at hand. We all are on a journey of some sorts and wish you all of God's blessings for yours. Glad to have you onboard. Welcome to CC.

Finding the source is a wonderful start. Until you do, try these two suggestions:
1. Four Square Breathing
Breath in a long slow breath counting to 4
Hold the breath counting to 4
Breath out counting to 4
Hold breath out counting to 4
You should find you are more relaxed and one cannot be panicked and relaxed at the same time.
Feel free to do it as often as you want...2 or 3 or more in a row as necessary
Practice it between panic attacks.
2. Call on the name of Jesus ... whether just the name (and do this outloud) or sing Jesus loves me or some other song.
His name is powerful and can strengthen you. Pray as often as you can. Journal those prayers and search scripture for God's answers. Note the progress as you grow closer to Him.
I hope that all helps.
Praying for you now.

I used to have severe panic attacks. I've sung Jesus loves me in a pop cooler to fight back. It worked then and it can work for you now. Even if you whisper it, as long as it's spoken, it wields great power. I, personally, don't like to blurt it out as too many use it as a swear word and I don't want to be thought of as speaking His name in vain. -student
