Hi. Please pray for me to get a job that does not require me to work 60+ hours a week. My current job I'm working 12 hour shifts in a negative environment. It is taking a toll on my health and family. Im praying to find a job close to the same pay rate without all of the required hours. Thank you.

I often work long days also and know how draining it can be as you really don't have any time to recover before you have to go back to work. I have worked in negative work environments also so I know how hard a hostile workplace can be. I have prayed for God to provide you with more suitable employment that is commensurate with your current compensation. Glad to have you join us. Welcome to CC.

Now this is a prayer I can connect with personally. I used to work for over 32 years in a School District but had an accident and had to move on to another line of work, I went thru many different fields landing in a job which I have worked many 12 hr and even 15 hr shifts. I, many times, get one day off a week and it is Sunday, where I also have taught classes and greet people at church etc etc.. so my rest is challenged to say the least. But I know my Lord and God and I walk daily with Him, so I also know I am where He has me. But I understand where this is an area of need and we need to pray for His established steps for you.

The bottom line is we actually work for God Himself! Consider (
Ephesians 6:5-8), which Paul writes to slaves but which we can apply to us employees:

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

It's helpful to envision that behind every employer stands the Lord Jesus (even worldly employers). He sees everything we do, and He appreciates it and will reward us, regardless of the type of work we do. I learned this lesson one day when I was busy about my work one day and I noticed that with all my details I do, people just don't care, it was just then Jesus quietly said, "I see you. And I appreciate what you're doing." Whoa! In an instant, that totally changed everything.

Suddenly, I was able to do a menial job - and later on, more important ones - as a labor of love and worship for Jesus. I know He sees and appreciates what I do. It forever changed my view of work.

God also wants us to see that work is His gift to us. It is not a result of the Fall. God gave Adam and Eve the job of cultivating the garden and exercising dominion over the world before sin entered the world. We were created to work, and for work. Work is God's good gift to us!

Listen to what Solomon wrote:

After looking at the way things are on this earth, here's what I've decided is the best way to live: Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life. And that's about it. That's the human lot. Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what's given and delighting in the work. It's God's gift!

What God has given me in wisdom is being happy in our work doesn't depend on the work, it depends on our attitude. To make the most of our job and be happy in our work is a gift God wants to give us! But, alas God does move us intuitively in our spirit, and gives us burdens to respond to in kind. So, if God has laid it on your heart to pursue a new order of hours we will ask Him to serve Himself in that leading:

"Father, You know all about our limitations as humans, You created us, and Roninbama is laying the life You gave him at Your feet. He has been honest in need for rest physically so the family will not suffer.
We ask you to make a way for this to be Your will , for new hours to be available in this, or, as You will it, even a new job. Lord, give Roninbama peace of mind as You establish his steps, and bring glory to Yourself and character to Roninbama as You procure Your will in this for him and his family. Lord take all of his life, in every detail and crush anything that is not You, as you build him up in Yourself - In Jesus Name I pray - Amen."
