After 30 years of smoking, the Lord finally one day in church gave me this thought: "You are using cigarettes as your god of comfort - it is time to turn away from that god (Idol) and you will find a greater peace than you have ever had."

I quit cold turkey and went through some physical problems, but believe me, you don't die and all the discomfort will pass.

What helped greatly was to have something to replace the cigarette when I felt the desire for one. For me, it was grapefruit juice. Somehow it killed the desire. When you make a decision for the Lord (and in my case it was to glorify Him as my God of Comfort), He meets you and gives you help. I believe that He gave me the thought to drink tons of grapefruit juice, and for me it really helped.

It does help to have a plan of doing something that will take the place of that cigarette. Ask the Lord for one. I can think of many things He might say to do instead. Find out what He would say to you. I pray that you would hear His voice.

Too many people just pray and ask the Lord to take the desire away (rare does it happen) - but few think to pray and ask the Lord for a plan.

God bless you.
