I had an idea or two on PM's. How about an options for 'friends list only' that can PM?
Or how about when you first receive a PM from someone it gives you to option to accept or reject. If you reject, it prevents that person from PMing you again. If you accept, they can PM you freely.

I bring this up because not only is there a lot of complaints about unwanted PM's in general, but there is one member in particular who seems to believe he i somehow special and even when asked not to PM or even talk to people he ignores those requests, repeatedly.

I can understand your wanting to block PMs from certain designated people. I don’t think it would be advantageous to block all PMs that don’t come from friends.

Well, some people make it clear they don't want PM's from people they aren't already familiar with, so yes, for those people it would be Very advantageous. Rather than having to hassle with unwanted PM's and constantly complaining in chat about it they would not even know they were being contacted. How is that not an advantage if you want to choose that option?

This isn't even something i want for myself. I would not likely not use either option myself. I just don't respond to PM's i don't want to. I'm not one of those that are always complaining about being PMed. But many people don't want to be PMed and this would resolve that problem.

On occasion, while having a discussion in the Bible discussion forum, you might want to say something in private to someone.

Well, some people don't want to b PMed, so this provides them with an option. That simple. No need to complicate it. Besides the majority of the complaints i hear are people in the lounge, and usually stay in the lounge. Again, this is an idea for an OPTION people can choose. The people who don't want to be bothered by random PM's can choose it, and the people that don't mind PM's can leave it off. But seeing as how i don't see you in lounge i don't really see how you can argue against something you never are around. But as a person who DOES spend time in the lounge and hears these complaints on a regular basis, i know this is a good idea.
If you'd be worried about not being able to be PMed then it would be as simple as not choosing that option. Not sure why you're arguing against providing people with an option.

This sounds like something that would be ideal for a good many of our female counterparts. I see several young ladies get pm'ed for the sole vendetta of those who wish to treat this as a dating site. And honestly, I'm not opposed to guys trying to find like-minded girls on here; of all places, especially. But some tend to not respect boundaries.

I'm all for the pre-emptive "allow/deny PM?" feature here.

This isn't a bad idea either, although I believe CC already has something like this - or if not, a blacklist feature (or so I thought), that is accessible through the sites control panel.

Just to be clear here, Ugly is referring to private messages in the chat rooms.

There is already an option to allow forum mail from:
nobody,
only contacts and moderators,
or everybody.

God bless :)

Does that option only apply to mail? Someone mentioned it having a universal affect. I never bothered prodding my control panel for it though. =/

Blacklisting fellow Christians on a Christian website. Yay!! Good times!

.......Or they could just click the ignore button that already exists for this purpose.

The "ignore list" will have a more universal affect. You can add specific screennames to the list, in your control panel.

You can also set your forum mail to come from contacts/mods only, or disable it altogether. If you have set it to contacts and mods only, someone who is not on your contacts list will see no option to send forum mail to you at all.

If i put someone in 'ignore' though PM, and i get disconnected, or close out of CC, the ignore is taken off. Meaning that person who PMed them once, can PM them again next time, and again the time after, and after that and on and on and on.. and each and every time that person has to press ignore. And for each person they want to ignore. Or you can provide one simple convenient lasting method. Which seems more simple?

I know of one person in particular who will purposefully PM people who have 'don't not PM me' messages, because he thinks it doesn't apply to him. I've seen people tell him they don't want any contact from him at all, they verbalize it to him specifically, and he will still continue PMIng them. So what makes more sense. Have to keep pressing 'ignore' every time you log on and he PM's, or set it so he can't PM you at all?

Or what of people who don't want to PM at all? Should they have to log in and spend every night pressing 'ignore' because people PM them anyways? Doesn't it make more sense to provide them with an option to not be PMed and not have to press the ignore button 20 x's a night, every night?

They keep insisting it affects PM's in chats, but everyone i've heard has said this isn't the case. The affect prevents the person from sending you CCmail, writing on your wall, or seeing what they write in any forum post. Though the catch to that is if someone 'quotes' that person, you can read what they say through the quote. So far the only Chat based block is the temporary ignore button on the PM boxes.

What about making it so the ignore list is effective in the chatrooms as well, ignoring everything from that person: forum posts, chat mail, private messages, and maybe even text from that person in the main chat? I have been told that it is supposed to be like that in the first place, but that is not the way it works. In that case they can just add to a pre-existing feature rather than creating a new one.

If someone doesn't want to PM with someone, why not just not open the PM box? Works for me...

I think the biggest obstacle with a website like CC has is that the forums and the chat are really two completely separate components. As webmasters, Robo and his team have done an awesome job over the years building this website and maintaining it. While it is possible to implement many of the ideas that people suggest in the forums, it would take a serious programmer to do so which could get expensive. Far more than Robo makes to keep this site going on a monthly basis.

On the upside, the software that this forum is made up of is promising huge upgrades in the not so distant future. On the downside, it will probably cost an arm and a leg to implement them when the upgrades do come which is why I'm not a fan of VBulletin at all. *lol*

I've got a problem of my own with the PM's, but nobody seems to be able to help me.... Can anyone tell me why I'm not receiving messages from just ONE of my friends?
I know they're messaging me, because they told me in a chat room, but I haven't been getting them... They've never been on my ignore list, and are not now, But I'm getting all my friend's messages but theirs. :(

What Ugly said, BlueAngel; your own thread will garner more attention and responses. You may need to contact an Admin in the end. I know sometimes people who PM me won't show up in the Private tab of the room user list, but I can still click on their name in the public tab and see their private messages. It's a weird hiccup that happens, but not consistently with one person.
