I'm as far from a computer operator as one can get, so when our chat sight made chatting in the chat room conditional upon downloading the Adobe Flash Player, I was puzzled. When attempting to download the player so I'd be allowed to speak with other Christians, I was prompted to "drop my anti-virus" protection in order to receive the player....What's this? If my level of security is set too high (medium) to receive this transmission, perhaps I don't want my computer exposed to whatever is being transmitted? I've experienced many a blessing by coming to the chat rooms here, prayer especially. What has changed? I'm unable to drop my level of security any further than it already is, and I'm hoping I've received this message in error. Can anyody help me to understand? I'm still allowed to send and receive mail, and read within the forums, but miss dropping by to chat. If you have sugestions to help me overcome this hurdle, I'd be grateful.
Lord Bless,
lajepo.

ok where to start.. what anti-virus software are you using? why are you unable to lower your security level?

now to address your concerns ^^^ the file that is downloaded has a ".exe" extension basically that says "i am a program" , some antivirus programs are "over protective" and will block any and all files with a .exe extension. the adobe flash player is a program that allows your web-browser to play media e.g. video, audio. almost all websites require some sort of flash/shock-wave plugin.
the adobe flash player will NOT harm your computer in any way so you have nothing to worry about

I'm sorting through a list of programs within the control panel of my laptop right now trying to find out how to drop my security level. I'm running on a Trend Micro protection program installed by the Geek Squad at Best Buy this past March...Over my head would be an understatement. Oh, by the way, thanx ex-Ranger

a cd/dvd player is "hardware" whereas the adobe flash plugin is "software"
hardware = cd/dvd, hard-drive, keyboard..etc
software = firefox/Internet explorer, games,..etc

i have not had the chance to work with trend micro but most anti-virus software will have a "options/preferences" within the program it self what you need to do is load trend micro then look under "file, edit, view...etc for a settings, options or preferences sub menu then browse through the options till you find something that relates to the security level settings

im sorry for the vague instructions i will do a bit of googling and c if i can find more detaled instructions for you

on the bottom right hand side of your desktop you should see the icon for trend micro right click that icon and choose "open main console" from the sub menu, when the window opens you will see three options on the left hand side the one you want is "virus & spyware controls" after clicking that a new menu will load you should see four(4) options saying "protection against virus and spyware", "prevent unauthorized changes", "scheduled and custom scans" , and "quarantine"
there are 2 ways to do this theres easy and complicated im going to outline the easy way
1. under "protection against virus and spyware" change the ON setting to OFF
2.under "prevent unauthorized changes" change the ON setting to OFF
3. minimize the window
4. click or copy paste this --> Adobe - Install a different version of Adobe Flash Player
5. select your OS windows 7/vista/xp..etc
6. select your browser internet explorer or "other browsers"
7. click the gray "download" button
8, if a prompt pops up and say something like would you like to run or save this file select the SAVE option
9. when the download has finished locate the file this can typically be found under c:/users/"yourname"/downloads the name will be something like "flash installer.exe"
10. double click the file
11. follow the prompts in the installer program when it has finished it may ask you to reboot your computer if it does select the restart later option
12. open trend micro set the 2 settings that you changed earlier to ON and close the window
13. if you were asked to restart then do that now if you were not then it is not required
14. open your web-browser navigate to Christian Chat Rooms & Forums @ Christian Chat .com! and try to enter the chat room
15. enjoy (if you are still unable to chat let me know)
