I haven't said much about my own personal family (other than my mother) but for YEARS growing up, my mom was jealous of my relationship with my Dad. Ever since I could remember my mom has tried to break the bonds of the "Father+Daughter" relationship and succeeded. I was never close with my dad, and I was brainwashed when I was little of how horrible of a father I had. My dad did this.... My dad did that... my dad said this... So on and so forth. Until I was able to understand everything going on, I thought my mom was saving me from some horrible childhood, when really... she was trying to destroy any KIND of childhood memories for me. I can't remember half of my life cause of my mother and the horrible fights my parents had, but I do remember the fact that I never understood why I was never around my dad more often than my mom.

So, recently my grandma (dad's mom) passed away just 2 weeks ago, and the news of hearing this made me want to reach out to my dad and make sure he was ok. You know, set aside differences and check on family to see if they needed my help in any way. I went to my dads house, and my grandpa was so happy to see me, he lit up like a Christmas tree! My dad gave me a big bear hug, and after being in his home for about 45 mins, he apologized to me, and said he was sorry for all the stuff that happened between us in the past! Praise GOD!!!! I was so thrilled to hear that come out of my dad, I went my whole life (26 years) of never hearing my father apologize to me... EVER!!! this is like the heaven gates opening and God telling me to reconnect with my father! Hallelujah!

I am so happy that I can actually go to my dads place and not feel tense or scared that he might say or do something. It is sad that the one thing that brought us back together was the fact that my grandma passed away, but I guess that all this was in God's plan. I always say "Everything happens for a reason". And I will stick by that till something proves me wrong. :)
