Hi,
I presume I am a strange bird here. Having to the best of my ability studied both science, depth psyhology, mankind and it's psyche, the Bible and other religions as well for about seventy years, I feel a companionship with the ancient Gnostics, by some authors considered to be the original Christians. If I had a need for being in an active Christian community it would have to be the Quakers.
Christ is a very relevant subject but on some particular details my views are quite different from the mainstream Christian view. I have to a certain degree studied the Gnostics, the Dead Sea Scrolls, The Qumran sect, and many different sources, and am aware of the rich literature on the subject, Like Albert Schweitzer, Herder, Elaine Pagels and many others.
When I have use references to John Allegreo, it has been disheartening to get responses with quite strong attacks on John Allegro himself instead of addressing the issues he covered in some of his books.
My main criticism against some orthodox Christians is the implied and expressed distrust as well as downright denial of the scientific worldview. They don't always strike me as having a reasonable understanding of science.
On the Internet I've encountered some "Christians" expressing a rather un-Christian personality toward their opponents, but I hope this place may be more balanced in style.
